Wait they want to make it another GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL? Would it be just part of the school, like some of the other academic year governor's schools, or are they really recommending we create a second TJ that takes the entire building??

Many people have suspicion on some kind of conspiracy or ulterior motives, but could it be possible that an aviation focused academy is just a way to lure students to the new high school with a minimal boundary change?

The communities near the KAA site would probably won't mind moving to the new high school, but I can see certain neighborhoods further out resisting being moved there. So instead of have the new school half empty, they start a speciality academy to let out of boundary students to go there voluntarily?

I would not automatically jump to the conclusion that there is corruption in the design.

I don't think you are familiar with the area.

The neighborhoods that would be moved to this school are MUCH closer to the new site than their current schools. In fact, there will likely be more neighborhoods that want to move there than otherwise.
The school can be easily populated with students that are WAY less than three miles away.
The school is VERY much needed for the area and most people were thrilled to hear of the purchase.
The kids should come from neighborhoods that are currently bused out of the area and from an overcrowded school that the SB intends to kick some out of that school and send the kids further away.

The "space" for an academy would only be there because they will be adding classes as the kids move into the building. The academy feels like a project to make one school board member happy, and I guess that happened at Lewis with the leadership academy so why not an aviation academy? It also strikes me as a way to try and tell parents that there is no space for their kid to move from SLHS or Westfields to the new academy, knowing that there are parents who would be happy to have their kids moved from SLHS or Westfield. It is an excuse to keep MC and UMC at moderatly high FARMS schools to keep test scores in an ok place at those schools.

Someone with a vested interest is pushing this hard and spent a lot of time compiling all those documents. There is no community demand for this and there never was a need or plan for it. I think they probably had people within FCPS writing up hypothetical scenarios like this years ago as part of their Gatehouse jobs. Kind of like newspaper reporters who write obituaries before someone dies. Then when KAA fell in their lap they dusted off their “aviation academy” idea and made it part of the upcoming presentation.

There’s no idea too stupid for Reid to present because her basic style is to chide anyone who doesn’t share her penchant for “imagining the possibilities.”

Xfld has 529 students, 529 * 4 / 7 = 302 HS students. Even moving Xfled to new HS, it still is less than 400-500 shortage after Coats/OakHill/McNair/Floris.

My theme is, there is space in the new HS for an academy program. You can advocate your school to join the new HS without calling the aviation program a boondoggle. It's close to iAD, my of my neighbors are pilots and mechanics, with so many corporations near 267 corridor, it makes sense.

That’s a bizarre analysis unless your assumption is that we’re supposed to pour whatever additional money is required to bring KAA up to the capacity of a school with 2000 or more kids.

If the actual capacity is closer to 1600, that’s how many kids should go there. They aren’t expanding other schools that could use additional seats, so they sure as hell shouldn’t be building an addition to KAA. Lewis has 1600 kids and that should be enough as well for KAA if that’s the number of kids it can accommodate. You can go play sports against smaller Loudoun schools, but investing even more money in this facility is ridiculous when others are repeatedly told there’s no money for them.
