In-class cell phone ban next year

They can have the strictest cell phone policy in the entire country, but unless it is enforced, it is pointless.

Right now, the school system has a similar if not the exact cell phone policy and it’s not enforced.

Most likely they will punish teachers for reporting kids breaking the rule because if a teacher was satisfactory the students would find the lesson more interesting than tiktok so they will make up negative reports so teacher careers are set back. I do t recommend this profession to people who value self respect.

I’m in Japan now no cells phones for kids but masking is very common. Funny how their kids are educated with masks and are heads and tails better educated but Americans are too dumb because of “ my freedoms “

And somehow magically, US colleges are at least for the time being heads and tails better...

Now there will be an epidemic of tardy arrivals which seriously disrupts class flow and learning. MCPS and many parents are in denial of how many kids are addicted to their phones. Expecting teenagers to do the right thing and just put them away doesn’t work for most kids.

Those kids are the ones who use their phones to help teachers during lockdowns. Teachers should take the phones and hold them in a container or at their desks in class.
Nobody is taking my kid’s cell phone for the day. He knows not to use it in class.
When they are locked down, I want to know where my kids are and help them get information. MCPS is notoriously bad at communicating to teachers and students. Parents are your lifeline. Don’t be so fast to cut us off. In Uvalde, police did nothing. Parents were the heroes.

All US colleges are not “heads and tails better” than colleges in Japan. Some 200+ year old American colleges are better than their Japanese counterparts, but that has nothing to do with anti-mask and anti-cell phone use reduction dimwits and everything to do with America attracting the best and brightest from other countries to fuel scientific advancements at universities.

But America is unlikely to stay on top. It will undergo a reverse brain drain due to bad Trump policies on scientific research. Meanwhile Japanese students are third globally on the internationally comparable PISA exam. The USA is 12th.

It's truly sad that we and our kids have to worry about violence and school shootings. The BOE, Taylor and Central Office need to be held accountable as they promised to make changes and haven't. Safety in terms of violence and physical buildings needs to be a huge priority.

Half the teachers and staff are on social media and posting the kids.

There’s someone on DCUM who keeps posting this same sentence over and over again. Show us the evidence of all this wrongdoing if you think it’s “half the teachers.”

Changes nothing they were already banned by principle descretion in every high school just no enforcement and this isn’t bringing any enforcement

Yep. My kid had a broken phone and a few teachers were asking them to scan QR codes to get info.

They also use them for ids and to submit schoolwork and make copies of things.

Who do you think finally opened that classroom door? Not a parent. Look into that. We’ve been fooled about Uvalde.
