Bad news! Have they been told whether any of the new dorms will be opening? |
If it is true that they are running behind, they might temporarily house in GGV, then the students will move when the dorms are completed. |
The construction website still says projects will finish in August. I don't see any announcement. |
These amenities are pretty standard in new construction dorms, and I would be surprised to see a college/university construct a new dorm without these. Especially the bathrooms - it gives the schools way more flexibility with housing when they don't have to gender floors/bathrooms. |
Is it because the West Woods is delayed or because of potential over enrollment? |
I’m not sure where this rumor is coming from. There’s no mention of it online and the housing office is still planning to put kids in the new buildings in the fall. |
There is no over enrollment, and I'm not sure that there are any delays. |
I haven't read this whole thread but there is no over enrollment, there are no delays. They increased the incoming class to 1600 intentionally and after much planning. No further increases are planned as of now. |
The rooms in Barrett are TINY. My kid lived in a double there as a sophomore and the room was barely wide enough to move around in with minimal furniture. By contrast the rooms in Lemon (where they lived freshman year) were a really good size. Both dorms are in a great location (they are basically across from each other). |
The new dorms are considered “premium” and more expensive than the older ones. |
The difference is around $1,200 per year. Room selection is random with early selection for kids with medical or religious accommodations and a couple LLCs. Room selection happened last week. |
+1. And ai have a senior moving into Pine (Global Village, which is language housing). As are several of her friends. She has not heard either formally or “through the grapevine” that there will be any issue moving into Pine on time in August. We have not been informed that this could be an issue as parents. |
Parent of current WM student here - my student heard that students designated to live in the new dorms received an email just before school ended that there could be delayed with temporary housing in GGV. I think several of the buildings in the new complex will be finished but one may not be. Also, it doesn’t sound like the new dining hall construction has really started yet so I am going to guess Caf may still be used next year. With all that said - GREAT school and am just thrilled with it as a parent. Get on the parent FB page which is a great resource. |
My kid selected a room in one of the new dorms. No mention of a delay at all. |
Which dorm may not be finished? My kid is in a new dorm with a medical accommodation that may not be available in GGV. |
