That was a surprisingly judgment-free storyline. If anything, he was relatively sympathetic because the wife's character was so deeply annoying. |
Cute, but doesn't hold a candle to the original. Too much trite updating.
Scenes that were dumb- the throuple Stereotypical gay tropes Stereotypical Gen Z crap- the sober gluten free vegans who don't know who Kenny Loggins is. Bad writing. The college play. Come on! There were better more subtle ways to do that. It was just cringe. If you want a mindless evening- or 2 evenings, ok, watch it. But- the original Four Seasons made you think and feel. |
True. I really wanted to dislike him, but found it hard to. |
I liked most looking at the house interiors, so east coast. (I am on the west coast so it felt very exotic) |
This is my problem with all these remakes. The original was perfect as an example of mid life couples dealing with divorce in their friend group. It was a very goox representation of upper middle class East Coast life in that era. Burnett, Alda, and Moreno are Hollywood legends. There was no need to "remake" this for 2025. Wtiters need to do something original and stop trying to recapture the glory of Hollyweod from the 1980's. |
I finished it last night. Not good. |
These are all really good points. |
I thought Danny, Kate, and Nick were the college friends. Kate met Jack in college and brought him into the group. |
NP. I’m not done yet but I tend to agree. It was meh. I think of Tina Fey as such a brilliant writer but this was just sort of corny with lots of flat jokes (sounding off a bull horn when you hear your friend have sex? Har har har har). |
I loved the original film, so I had low expectations for this series. Mainly I watched it to see Vassar campus and Beacon, NY scenes (DC is currently at Vassar).
It wasn't horrible; there were some funny scenes, but I had to completely separate it from the original film and consider it on its own (otherwise, it wouldn't hold a candle). Most disappointing was the Tina Fey and Will Forte dynamic. Their situation was painfully accurate, but felt like a missed opportunity for these 2 talented comedians to be playing a pathetic bickering middle-aged couple. Agree that the gay couple felt a little too campy/cliche. |
Watching it now. Eh |
I thought Ginny was realistic for a guy having a midlife crisis, up until we met her friends. The seemingly together and responsible dental hygienist didn't seem to match the friends who seemed younger and much more into fads to make money vs having a "normal" career. |
I have a cold and I binged the whole thing. Cried a lot in parts, which might have been the cold meds. But also a little bit of sadness over the idea of taking marriages and relationships for granted. |
I enjoyed it. I am definitely the target audience and even the stereotypes ran true to my experience as a college kid in the 90s.
My favorite part was the guitar guy singing candle in the wind. It just completely cracked me up and brought me back to college when Princess Diana died and Candle in the Wind was EVERYWHERE. |
