MLSnext 2 and GA moves to school year cutoff from 26-27 season

Why would MLS academies stay BY? makes little sense...i just don't see any advantage. Not to mention they would be recruiting kids who are playing on SY teams. Either way, in 5 years most the top players being selected for academy will be Fall birthdays. The spring birthdays wont be on top teams, so they won't even be considered.

There, that's what you are not seeing. Money is not in the leagues like MLSN, it in the teams. MLS knows this of course and needs to reach down and come up with schemes to get part of the bag.

At my club (non Academy) the first teams play MLSN1.

Now, second teams have been invited to join MLSN2.

If MLSN2 plays SY, then I see impossible that MLSN 1 remains BY.

It’s absolutely infeasible keeping two different age systems (BY/SY) inside the same club.

Just stop. MLSN the entity is not accommodating 2 over 1. They are one entity and will do what is best for MLSN as a whole. That involves having ONE age cutoff whatever that is. They have no allegiance to BY or SY. But in the youth soccer environment come Fall 26, their best bet to maintain and improve market share is to move to SY.

In MLS Next, Academy teams are routinely blowing out P2P teams.

If the Academy Teams remain BY and "Play up" by 6 months against SY P2P teams that should level the playing field and give them a more challenging development experience.

Academy teams will also have an excuse to fall back on should they ever lose to a P2P MLSN Team.
