Wow, shocked. Most average kids I know want a big rah rah school. Michigan is the only one here that has that.

If "big rah rah" means a lot of school spirit and sports, UCLA has a ton of it too. DD graduated last year.

Winning sports. UCLA doesn't really have that for the major sports, unless you are counting women's basketball.

UCLA: 124 NCAA championships, across 20 different sports (including football, baseball and of course men’s and women’s basketball)

Michigan: 39 NCAA championships, across 10 different sports (including football, baseball, and men’s basketball)

On top of those lil’ inconvenient details, UCLA also whomp whomps all over Michigan when it comes to academic reputation, and has for decades.

Here’s a lil’ inconvenient detail that the UCLA booster failed to mention. Michigan has always had, and still does, a higher PA score at USNWR since the rankings started way back in the eighties. You know that score that actually shows “academic reputation” among peer institutions. Michigan whomp whomps UCLA in this most important metric.

Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota … is there really a meaningful difference?

Wow, you are SO witty! Because you are showing how you think your ignorance makes you superior, because those places somehow depend on your mind to have differences. As the French say, douché!

Did you use Google Translate or a dollar store ChatGPT proxy to produce that response?

The list is pointless since it is often a repeat of previous years

The obsession is with the Michigan bashers on this board.

If I wanted to attend college in flyover country, freeze my ass off alongside an army of mediocre in-state jamokes and annoying mouthbreathers from NY/NJ central casting, and spend my life defending my alma mater’s reputation based on rankings that have been MIA since before I was born, you’re right - Michigan would probably be a decent target school. Hail, indeed.

I would encourage my kid to attend Michigan just to avoid people like the one who posted this.

Well, if you want to pay private school tuition to make that point, all the power to you. Have fun with the Michigan stupids and the oos top 25 rejects (who are at Michigan because it is the only top 25 they got into).

Pathetic loser response. You just can’t stand it that Michigan is considered more desirable by many students AND their parents.

This survey was for actual students applying to college.

Anonymous wrote:Ucla has “big time” sports. But it is hardly a rah-rah school these days(maybe a positive in some people’s minds). The athletic director is weak. The athletic department is a mess of sit on their hands bureaucrats. Student engagement & alumni support for football & basketball is poor & continuing to sag. The football program is lackluster & sinking. They have trouble getting people out to the Rose Bowl(tarp bowl) for games. Basketball is not looking good & apart from maybe 2-3 games a yr, Pauley is 1/2 full & a relative library. Nice school, nice setting, some smart kids, but school spirit & sports culture does not compare to Michigan. Not even close.

Athletic attendance is lower because there are more things to do.

UCLA to me is the best public hands down. Excellent research academics. Recruitments is great and location and career prospects are boundless. True meritocracy, no legacy admissions just gpa. No standardized tests what else can you want and looks at only 11-12 grades with gpa that doesn’t look at minuses and pluses. Of course I don’t think the admittance rate difference it’s not muc between oos and in state roughly 8-9%. So insanely competitive.

UCLA looks at 10-11 grades.
