I does look high, but it includes $460 payment, $166 monthly insurance (no accidents ever, can't get is down much), and gas. I got 0% loan and put 50% down. Paying this car off in under 2 years. I drive only 3000 miles a year. The car is my luxury. I don't drive it enough to justify having one, but I want it. Willing to eat out less or shop. |
Do you have kids? Are you saving for college? |
sure, but the bottom of the barrel really like to make sure all their peers are just as miserable as they are. it’s hilarious that someone making 90k is slinging mud at someone making 160k. just pitiful. |
Pitiful is crying about making $160,000. I would be happy if they were making more, but they need perspective. |
Catering help? Lawn, cleaner…do it yourself. Our big expense is tutoring and sports-music lessons and activities. We make slightly less, paid off the house, no debt and will pay cash for our next car. |
Sure. You can and we actually did it ourselves when we had less income, more expenses and wanted to also save for future. Compounding is magic. Keeping costs down and paying ourselves first was something we always did. Having a low mortgage, driving reliable mid-price Japanese cars, no student debt, no childcare cost, no private schools, cooking from scratch, only 2 kids and no pets - all of these allowed us the luxury to grow our wealth, so that we are in a position to help our kids and grandkids too. |
If your family lives on $130,000 per year or less, where do you live? |
NWDC. Condos and apartments have been great for us as long as they have a pool. My idea of moving up one day is to live in the 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom condo on top floor. I want to rent it, not own it though. I grew up on a farm and want zero yard work. |
Talk about the clueless DC Folks. |
Baltimore County. I’ve lived on $55k (2013) to $99k (currently) pretty comfortably here. |
Simple. Just live under your means—always. |
Hyattsville, MD, but we bought in 2017 and I don't think we could buy a house here now. |
Montgomery County, in an area you'd never consider. |
That seems silly if you are not working. I'd rather do those things to pay for more things for my kids. |
Ah, the educated elite that have taken us into the sewer. Demand their cheap foreign labor to take care of their snowflakes. |
