School delayed and no sports or activities for 3 days straight just for cold weather?!?

I am no defender of MCPS, but I think the reasoning was that they needed parking lots clear earlier in the evening to start working on salting/breaking up the ice. The delay must be for the same reason. They probably don’t have enough plows/trucks/workers because usually we don’t have prolonged ice/snow.

Don’t come at me. Just trying to see their reasoning.

All childcare is delayed 2 hours too. Terrible decision

+1 I think parents should organize for legislation that requires MCPS to pay for parents' childcare costs when they require childcare providers to close and everything else (county, city, federal government) is open.

So create a middleman (MoCo govt)? You realize that any services MCPS provides is essentially paid for by parents?

Seriously. There is a profound problem with MCPS as a whole. We are paying this new superintendent $360,000 per year to make stupid decisions like this one. The cultural rot at MCPS runs very deep.

Voters, we are the problem. He's obviously not a serious man but the issue goes much deeper than him

Is Essie McGuire the problem? She's the constant here and she seems like she's manipulating Dr. Taylor quite a bit with her insider knowledge having worked for both MCPS and the County Council.

What do you mean "the constant"? She hasn't actually been at MCPS constantly. She left and then came back.

Whoa are you being charged tuition? That's a scam, girl.

I would get this if there was new snow or rain, but that’s not the case.

You're correct. The BCC parking lot was all clear, but I hear the Walter Johnson parking lot was a mess this morning, and they obviously can't work on it if the cars are there.

So while my kids can get to BCC safely and everything is clear in downtown Bethesda, I imagine a few schools still have some issues.

And that's OK. Unlike some really angry and unstable posters, I expect closures and delays and understand that it's on parents to organize themselves for work and childcare. We've been doing this since my kids were in Kindergarten.

It's just amazing that every single year, there's the same insanity on this board from parents who clearly can't manage their emotions and can't seem to remember it was always like this.

What a bunch of whiners. It happens rarely. Just deal with it.

I remember MCPS closing for cold years ago. But apparently a lot of people don't.

I do! This is not a new thing. However, parents back then weren't a bunch of entitled brats who complained about EVERYTHING.

Lmao I will believe this if I see any evidence of salting or work this evening. I highly doubt it when there is no new snow / precipitation forecasted. Places that were clear like roads are remaining so, and places that the county declined to salt on Sat are ice. Nothing thawed and refroze - it's been too cold for that.

I meant the constant from a local government perspective. Dr. Taylor, coming from Stafford County, is the outsider when it comes to MoCo, but Essie is not. She knows the game, the players and where all of the bodies are buried on both the MCPS and County Council side.

Our provider was clear that it is an MCPS decision and they are not allowed to start the program earlier.

MCPS really is making no sense. I should not be surprised.

She’s at least part of the problem.

Yes, people have to pay for before care and aftercare. Do you think it is free? -DP
