How much property do you have?

Not enough that I can’t maintain it with a rake and good old-fashioned work ethic.

If you feel the need to use a leaf blower you either bit off more than you could chew or should figure out a different landscaping plan.

So either I rake it all myself or pay landscapers to rake, but do not allow a leaf blower to be used either way, or else I'm lazy, wasteful, garbage human. What is your complaint - the noise?

Yes, the noise is the number one complaint, followed by the outlandish and utterly pointless waste of gas or electricity.

Pssst....we don't care.

Yeah, no sh!t. That’s why I said you’re a garbage human.

Hey, I'm the pp you called garbage human, not this poster. I asked if it was the noise that bothered you.

I'm a lazy, wasteful, garbage human being because my yardwork noise disturbs your peace. OK. I only blow the leaves 2-3 times in the fall. I mulch grass clippings. Now there are many neighbors who use their blowers all summer and fall. Are they more garbage-y or are we all equal garbage because of any blower usage.

Listen, it’s not too late for you. Those 2-3 times a year you blow the leaves? Just… stop doing that.

It's too late. I'm firmly on the garbage continuum, because we have many oak trees and those S.O.B. leaves don't break down easily or thoroughly. I raked them all for years, and am choosing to no longer do that.

So pay some kids to rake them, you lazy cheapskate.

Point me to the crew of tweens or teens who wants to rake half an acre of oak leaves every 1-2 weeks. Also please advise a suggested wage for them. Thanks.

Believe it or not teens used to do these types of jobs. I’d much rather pay some teenagers to hand rake.

I gotta say, you have done nothing but insult and smear others. No one has attacked you or your noise sensitivity. And no teens here would want such a job.

Well of course the teens in your neighborhood are too lazy to do any real work, just like their lazy parents. Great observation.

They make money on clear expanses of grass and bare mulch. Raking leaves off mulch is misery. And then you have to sweep all the paved areas. A blower is much, much faster and saves the bodies of your crew.

Duh.

No. Raking is better for your body than blowers. Blowers are bad for your ears and lungs.

The people blowers are better for is the OWNERS of the companies. NOT the workers they send out.

I live next to hippie losers who inherited their money to buy a home in my neighborhood. I smell their weed 24/7. I run my blower overtime just for them.

Non sequitur

Anonymous wrote:You live in a neighborhood where people hire lawn crews. Blowing is one of the most labor efficient and impactful things they can do, so it makes sense that they do it all the time.

I live in a neighborhood with a combo of hippie types who leave their leaves for the bugs and lazy types who don’t bother, and I don’t have this problem.

We have other noise though.

But basically that particular noise pollution is a cost of living in a fancy neighborhood.

You seem to forget a handy invention called a “rake.” Cheap, quiet, effective.

My next door neighbor leaf blows her pool deck off 3x a day through the spring, summer and fall. At least it's a battery powered one.

Satisfied and happy people don’t act like that so you really are not doing so well yourself. Talk about losers.

Gas powered leaf blowers may be effective, but the trade-off is not worth it. When the throttle is up, they operate at over 100 decibels, which is very dangerous to human hearing. In my neighborhood, a white van or pickup pulls up, 2 or 3 guys pop out, and they all fire up their gas leaf blowers together and run them up to an hour. In the summer months, this is happening every day as different neighbors have different schedules. I'm retired, do community work at home, and can't focus or concentrate even with NC headphones on -- it's that loud. I can't imagine trying to work at home with this -- especially if you needed to make calls or video chats -- or being a stay-at-home parent with small kids. It's honestly criminal.

DC has banned gas ones in favor of electric which aren't as bad. VA should do the same thing.
