Is anyone else depressed about MAGA?

I feel you.

It leaves me with very mixed feelings about being American.

The MAGA cult is a whole other level. They seem to see him as portrayed on his trading cards, like a superhero that has zero basis in reality.

Why? Just why?

Immigration. My very sane parents, who raised me to be an independent thinker, tolerant of all and non-judgmental, are all in on Trump's plans for the border. That is their single issue, and they literally don't care about anything else. Oh, and 2A. Dad is convinced some Democrat boogeyman is going to swoop in and take his guns.

They're in their late 70s and readily admit their belief that any other issues (environment, gun control, RvW) will never impact them in the long run, so why should they care? This despite the fact that they have 2 young granddaughters who have to grow up in the world they leave behind, and their own DD (that would be me) had a medically necessary abortion to save my life, of the type being denied to many in Texas, Idaho, etc.

I'm an only child and love my parents very much. We don't talk about anything that might turn political.

But, don’t we all want the police to take his guns away?

Uhhh, no? Sensible gun control and enforcement of laws already on the books =/= "take all the guns away".

Kamala is on video saying she supports mandatory buybacks using lists of registered gun owners. That may be where PP’s dad is getting his idea of “some Democrat boogeyman.”

Nope, I'm actually the same PP. That isn't where he gets that idea. He literally thinks they're going to go door to door and search for all the guns. At every home in the country. No idea where that particular thought came from.

If there is a mandatory buyback and you don’t turn in your gun, the government could use a list of registered gun owner and go to your house and pick it up for you. It’s the logical next step.

No, he thinks they're going to literally go door to door to catch ALL the guns, registered or not.
There's LOTS of unregistered gun owners in this country.

That’s the only way it would actually be effective. You would have to get all the guns, not just the registered ones.

Good luck with making that happen.

You do realize Democrats have been in charge 12 of last 16 years?

+1

4 republican years (2 under covid)
2 years under a republican w/o covid destroying everything

yet democrats blame republicans for everything

You mean good luck to Kamala. It’s her idea.

What makes you think they are all uneducated? I know a woman who is a Ph. D. In Economics from Harvard who has voted for him three times and will again in 2024! She is not an anomaly.

America has never been more racist than it is today!
That may or may not be true, but I’ll raise you: America is the least racist country.

Thinking through my Trump voting friends, they are all college educated and almost all have law degrees or MBAs.

If a democrat is president, America is not racist or bigoted or terrible.

If a republican is elected president, America immediately transforms into an absolute hellhole.

+1. Same here.

Kamala’s theme of “brat summer” and “vibes” does not resonate with an educated crowd.

Then why is OP complaining? She’s had Democrat presidents vast majority of past two decades.

Were they educated in the South?

I really cannot put together I intelligent/thoughtful/sophisticated with supporting.

I am an academic with a PhD, and she is an anomaly.

The question being discussed is whether MAGA is uneducated, not who Ph.D.s support.
