Compared to Kiawah, it's at least 2 hours closer by car -- or fly into Wilmington. Can swim in the ocean from April to October. No cars on the island, just golf carts and bikes. LOVE BHI. |
Have you looked in California, like in Malibu? |
OP - consider a lake out west, close to ski mountains. That way you get summer water activities and winter skiing.

Coronado Beach in San Diego |
I wouldn’t do the east coast! I grew up on an island and you deal with a major hurricane every ten years |
+100??? Do you ever read the posts before you post your questions?? The OP answered this on the very first page, but to make it simple for you just go to the top of this very page. 😐 |
Tybee Island, GA. Easy flight to Savannah. And cheap (relatively, speaking.)
This part of the island isn't near stores/shops, but can use a golf cart of the island. Direct/private beach access. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1-Waterside-Walk-Tybee-Island-GA-31328/14194439_zpid/ |
Isn’t Bald Head Island dead most of the year? I would buy in Nantucket. |
You could get an amazing place in sandbridge VA Beach |
There are no walkable restaurants or stores on Kiawah though. My family had a house there and sold it for that reason. |
Agree with this. Op won't like it bc of weather but much easier for weekend trips and your kids bringing friends |
There's definitely not as much activity as Nantucket, which I also love. But there's a lot going on until Thanskgiving, when it sorta shuts down. Only about 300 year-round residents, but the clubs and market stay open through winter until tourists start arriving again in spring. |

Nantucket homes are sinking into the ocean |
Kiawah is the obvious answer here. |
