would you "let" your 18 year old go on Ozempic?

I think she should see a doctor to find out if there are other medical issues going on with her, perhaps hormonal problems. There are also other weight loss medications that have been around longer and that she could try before this option. Something like metformin (?) can help someone lose 10lbs without necessarily causing the side effects of the latest injection weight loss meds

You are a pathetic little person there

Ozempic wegovy etc are intended to be used indefinitely and are not a quick fix weight loss medication to get rid of 20 lbs

This. The reality is she is a legal adult so she can go on it regardless of what you say. I'd suggest some therapy for her. I'm a size 8/10 and no way would I consider Ozempic for me. I would not want the bone issues or gut issues plus a size 8-10 is normal weight.

Hormonal problems for a size 8? The doctor would think OP is nuts.

A personal trainer for 6 months.

Other people who still really think like this? Like the body is a commodity? Absolutely astounds me

Hell no. This is ridiculous to even consider.

She does not want osteoporosis at age 50.

While I do not think a young person of her size should be on those drugs, after having to take them myself. I think you are ridiculous in spreading misinformation and lies.

This is a terrible reason to get on semaglutides. First, they are expensive. What happens when a partner finds out you spend a fortune every year on a medication for weight loss and that if you get off it, then the weight will come back? My wife is on semaglutide and it costs us almost $500/month, almost $6K. I am fine with the cost because we are in our 50s and can afford it. But we also aren't saving money for a house, a wedding and children's colleges.

Second, the effects of semaglutides on pregnancy are unknown, but most doctors will advise patients to discontinue if they get pregnant. For one thing, you don't want to surpress your appetite when you are eating for two and you need to eat enough for the fetus to grow naturally. It is suspected that infants born to mothers on semaglutide could be undernourished or undersized due to lack of sufficient nutrition during pregnancy.

So, this should not be the focus. If/when it comes out, it could become a major problem in a relationship if this is one of the reasons you chose this poorly reasoned decision.

A size 8/10 18 year old who eats right and exercises a lot could have hormonal issues

Look into this:

Both drugs have been around for 30+ years. She doesn't have much weight to lose, and this is very effective. She might be eating well, but she is likely consuming more calories than her body needs. I had the same issue until I figured out just how slow my metabolism is (genetic), and how calorie dense many healthy foods are.

BMI is a terrible metric.

She works out and a lot of her weight may be muscle. 8/10 is normal for her height. I do some work around semaglutides and I would definitely not encourage her to use them. The risks and side effects at her age are really not worth it.

I think I would try to understand what she wants and why. Next steps depend on that.
