I understand and know the value of promoting diverse candidates that reflect the changing demographics of our county, but it's a horrible trend that HR and board members are selecting candidates - or rejecting candidates - based on race. Pick the best person for the job, period.

You are assuming they are rejecting better persons. Parents and community are include in the interview process.

MCPS should only be putting forward candidates that are qualified to the parent/community panel. He should not have made it to that point.

Parent/community involvement in interviews is strictly window-dressing. The questions are tightly controlled and the outcome of the interview process is always pre-determined by the supervising staff. I know; I have been involved in several interview processes. And before you ask why I kept doing it, I'll tell you: because I wanted to gain insight as to what was actually going on.

Especially little kids! They are putting in a primary school that only has very little kids pre-k - 2nd grade. What a disaster.

I’m curious to know how many of the people on this thread actually have experience in educational leadership or the overall process for leader selection. Some of the things suggested here illustrate why leadership/hiring committees would not take your concerns seriously.

Tbh, many of these comments are why MCPS is losing qualified and dedicated leaders and staff. Y’all rake people over the coals for things you know nothing about — educators who are truly qualified do not have to tolerate this. So good luck.

Spoken like a true central office employee doubling down on the selection of a terrible leader assigned to school that is predominately low income and of color, in the hopes that parents won’t have the wherewithal and resources to complain. Lovely.

The Oyster community has provided detailed instances of this man’s poor performance with them and their children, but CO apparently is either clueless or just doesn’t give a damn.

+1 and I would go with the latter.

Does anyone have contact information for PTA members at Roscoe Nix? As an Oyster parent I would like to let them know specific concerns that arose at our school and what to be on guard for. I wish that Wilson/Jackson-Reed had done the same for us when DCPS made the unconscionable choice of moving him to Oyster.

This is a high poverty school and may not have an active PTA.

You might want to reach out to the Post reporter who write an article recently on Roscoe Nix.

Great, thank you. There are PTA members listed on the website but no contact info and no one answered the front office phone. I appreciate your response and I will check in with that reporter.

Thank you for doing that. It may also be worth reaching out to the Bethesda Beat/MoCo 360 reporter who covers education: elia.griffin@moco360.media

Wait, so this guys has been horrible as an admin at different schools? Is he one that gets moved instead of fired or demoted?

That's what happened at DCPS, until he had an epic meltdown and quite on the spot. Now he's MCPS's problem -- and specifically a Roscoe Nix problem.

He was a high school science teacher and then an assistant principal at Wilson/Jackson-Reed. He was then selected as principal at Oyster-Adams when our previous principal left. Since seeing him in action I have talked to parents with kids at Jackson-Reed who said he was awful to deal with as an AP there. DCPS has finally realized it's a losing proposition to keep employing him. Unfortunately it seems that Montgomery County is willing to take him on.

Predictions for this guy: will get a doctorate degree while being the principal ,(if doesn't have one already), will get failed up to C.O. and supervise ES as a director in 3 years.
