prestigious school, 2 moms, Black child?

None of these schools are rigorous in K. They ramp up at different rates. We’re a gds family and it’s too slow to ramp up IMO as middle school doesn’t really prepare kids for high school. That said, we also have family/friends who graduated 10 years ago and it did do that in middle school then so hard to say where it will be in 10 years. At high school level, there is too much work IMO so the notion one would not look at it do to rigor seems absurd. That’s also true at sidwell and cathedral schools. Dunno re others. I went to Harvard and can’t believe how much work these high schools are. That said, gds is a lovely community and quite joyful so work aside the kids seem really happen.

They’re the most diverse, social justice-focused school in the Washington area. And year after year GDS bests its near-peers in Ivy League admissions.

Do they indoctrinate kids into antisemitism, disrespect for the police, and all forms of hate so they will be prepared for the Ivy League?

GDS’ college admissions, especially to Ivies, was abysmal last year.

serious question, does anyone know how the Ivy league (especially Columbia) became so anti-semitic and hateful so quickly?

Antisemitism has been mainstream in academia since basically always.

Norwood family and very happy with the academics. They make a solid and honest effort toward diversity. DS will be going to a prestigious HS in the fall and the HS placement team was wonderful.

There is no diversity there. Your kid may be 1 of a few or the only Black kid in their class.

And yet, racial diversity is more than just black and white and, as OP has clearly noted, diversity can also be on other dimensions (LGBTQ). I'd argue that there are schools with more black kids that are less diverse (with a big "D") than Norwood and furthermore that handle diversity and community acceptance (and DEI more broadly) very poorly when compared to Norwood.

We are all entitled to our opinions.

Yes and nobody denied you of yours.

GDS ISNT the most diverse school in the Washington Area.

No shade on GDS but I agree with PP. GDS talks a lot about diversity but their student body is not the most diverse in DMV while also being more diverse than some.

OP be careful what you sign up for if looking ag k-12. Some of these schools are VERY different in HS compared to how they will be in elementary. You are more likely to get a genuine feel for the "entire journey" if looking at k-8 schools (even though elementary and middle school are also very different stages).

it has never reached the point where a school had to transition to virtual due to violence and threats against Jewish students like Columbia did recently.

That's true. I just made that comment as someone who did a humanities PhD at an Ivy (not Columbia). I am unfortunately not surprised by any of it.

They need to start looking at protestors - many are not even US citizens are here on visas or even here on expired visas. It is a real thing.

I would file a class action lawsuit against not only the schools but also against the organizers and individuals who are spewing hate and inciting violence. In Germany hate speech is a crime. They have much stricter laws in Europe now. We should consider the same. Not just in this instance but in other instances of free speech which incite violence.
