Why? |
Northwood isn't just relieving overcapacity at WJ, it is relieving DCC too. |
Administration at Northwood is strong. I have a kid at Northwood and one at another DCC school and Northwood is much calmer. MC2 and 2E programs are very strong at Northwood. |
And Kennedy's administration is....? |
Yes. Northwood reconstruction also relieves that overcapacity. Northwood is unhappy about being moved into Rockville and having a 30% unfinished school, no athletic fields, no auditorium. WJ community is upset about 3 year delay in Woodward occuoancy. Lots of annoyance to go around. |
According to this document from tomorrow's board meeting, Woodward construction is 91% completed.

I would plan for a 4 year delay. Knowing MCPS, the odds of something going wrong are high |
It is complete bs. So many things are unfinished. They shared info at a Northwood staff meeting and tensions were extremely high because people could not believe some of the stuff they were hearing. The school feels like a downgrade in its present form even when compared with Northwood’s old and crappy building |
They should be able to get a better estimate of the timing after they start demolition of the old Northwood building this summer. |
It is a holding school. Holding schools are always a temporary downgrade, followed by a move to a bright and shiny new building. |
This outcome was obvious as soon as the council cut impact fees. Keep listening to the YIMBY crowd and we’ll have more schools without auditoriums and eventually schools without playing fields. |
I think I know which school this is describing. It was a long 18 months with gym in the cafeteria and the bus commute from Hades |
Why is anyone surprised? The present MCPS clowns are engaged in a race to the bottom. MCPS used to be better but unfortunately it gets a little worse every year |
Isn't it 91% of phase 1 (of 3)? |

There was a community meeting yesterday about the move to Woodward. What blew my mind the most about this was there is no one in charge of overseeing the whole construction & move, just little departments (transportation, athletics, etc.) working on their little piece of the puzzle. Explains a lot. |
