Overnight clamping in the Sahara |
DH and I went to a very small wildlife sanctuary in Tasmania, and there was an enclosure with a baby wombat. I got to hold the baby wombat (like a baby, on its back in my arms), and it fell asleep and just snoozed in my arms.
Other highlights would be doing the Sydney Harbour Bridge climb with my kids, snorkeling in the Andaman Sea, and doing a whole bunch of animal encounters in the US - capybaras, red pandas, meerkats, and a sloth. |
Being out in the crowd in New Orleans the night they won the NFC Championships for the first time after Katrina. I am not a football person, I happened to be there for a work trip, but it was so much fun. There were spontaneous brass bands playing on street corners, everyone was happy and excited and a little drunk.
Snorkeling at Kicker Rock in the Galapagos. It's a really sheltered, but deep spot, and we saw so many amazing things. Sea turtles, rays, sharks, incredible fish. Scrambling through fields and over stiles to find a small standing stone grouping in Cornwall. We got there at sunset and no one else was there. I'm not a believer in mystic powers, but knowing it's a place people have been going to for 4000 years made it feel special. |

I did maid of the mist when I was probably 6, so in the 1970s, and it really was unforgettable. I wanted to take my kids but it’s hard to work it into another vacation….thry aren’t good car travelers so suggesting a drive like that for a boat ride has been a hard sell. |
I’ll second kayaking the Bioluminescent bay in Puerto Rico we did it as a family and it was a great time

DP but many rays enjoy humans. I have touched them all over the world diving..they come back for gentle pets. Also sea lions…we were diving and played with the sea lions in the Galapagos. They would swim/somerdault/flip around and then look at you and wait, then let you do something, then zoom around again and come back and wait…so cool. You wait for them to come to you but there is nothing wrong with touching them if they like it. |
