If I'm a registered democrat, can I vote in the Virginia republican presidential primary?

If your party has let you down, then by all means, change and vote mind. Voting should be for who support, not for who you think you candidate can beat when the day comes. If that’s what you’re doing then you should stop to think about why the candidate you are trying to disadvantage is such a threat. Ask yourself what everyone else is on board with that you are overlooking in them. That’s non partisan advice by the way. It’s a two way street!

It’s a free country. People can vote any way they want to, thank heavens.

Says someone who bellyaches when voters say they will not vote for Biden.

I've yet to meet anyone that bellyaches at that thought of not voting for Biden or Trump. Those with enough courage and savvy not to be duped into voting for those two old clowns again should be rewarded.

There is nothing “savvy” about pretending you are making a difference by voting third party or worse, opting out at all. It’s what naive 20-something middle class white boys do, little boys who can afford to have “principles” because everything is going to work out for them anyway.

Real adults live in reality. Our choices are Trump or Biden. You choose which one is least bad for you or, if you’re a well off white guy, the people you love. There is no perfect here on Planet Reality - only a series of choices among less than ideal options.

I am definitely NOT a “20-something white boy”, nor am I a “well-off white guy”. But I am a lifelong resident here on Planet Reality. And I’m choosing Trump.

Then we know you’re an uneducated white person.
