One of the reasons LGBTQ+ issues dominate the news is because Republicans are making dehumanizing and stripping away their rights a centerpiece of their agenda at the state level. Our Federal Government had been showing signs of dysfunction and and poor leadership long before Jan. 6th 2021. We haven't had a newly elected president that made sense since the 1990s. I think it is important for the fringe to be vocal, because discourse is important, and you need to know where the edges are. All ideas should be heard, and bad ones should be called out as such. Debate is good. Name calling and disinformation are not.

The country has moved right. Republicans are becoming some version of a Nationalists party, Democrats have become the old Republicans, and the real left is being squeezed out. A progressive party will emerge in a decade or two.

As for the question you ask, I don’t think I trust the government to correctly identify what is Russian psyops and what is protected free speech. I don’t want the government clamping down on speech like China does. I don’t mind private enterprises deciding what they want to host online or not, but I do not trust the government to do so.
