It’s not a safety for anyone.

Exactly, Gatech had a 10 percent oos acceptance rate for EA this year, RD will be lower.

For reference I got into UNC CH OOS so things were definitely easier back "in the day"
The top school in GA is Emory, those are the top public schools.

Nonsense.

UGA is a distant 3rd.

Maybe Emory is top private but it is close with Oglethorpe.

UGA is no safety, southern state flagships are in vogue.

EA is GTs harderst round, so RD won't be lower. Emory's overall acceptance rate is typically lower as GT hardest EA round. Last year GTs EA2 round was 13%. Emorys overall rate last year was 11% and its RD rare was 9% .

You can troll harder than that. I'm sure of it. I know several UGA Honor students rejected from Emory...both campuses.

Georgia is an up and coming school. As several have said the Hope Scholarship, Strong State Demographics etc have transformed the admissions profile. Athens is a legendary college town.

I don't think comparisons to Georgia Tech are that relevant. Georgia Tech is a great school but it is a very different school and experience. Same with Emory. Nothing about Georgia Tech or Emory will block the path onward and upward for Georgia.

+1 UGA offers top academics and the big school spirit, classic college town, etc.

For MIT? You are saying kids pick GATech over MIT? You think kids that have MIT stats but don’t get in don’t often go to GATech?

It’s still a safety for kids trying to get to into MIT.

It’s really not. Not sure why you’re hung up on this. To get into either school, you need to be perfect and you are still likely to be rejected.

Probably do. But that is because Emory is trying to lose its provincial label, which it can't (because of Oxford) and which UGA doesn't care about for obvious reasons.

Bingo! Happens a lot. A safety is a school you are sure to get in but will most likely not attend because you will get into one of your matches and, hopefully, reaches. GT's admit profile and rates are close to MITs so it's not a safety any longer for anyone.
