William Tyler Page Elementary

Anyone have any experience with this school?

My child attends William Tyler Page, and we've had a generally good experience there. It's a very small elementary school, around 400 students, with three sections per grade level. A new principal started there last fall, and she's very down to earth, positive, and seems very supportive of all students. The AP is one of those people with very high expectations for students, but who exudes concern and care for all. The guidance counselor has been there for years and is absolutely fantastic. We have had some ups and downs with a few of the "specials" teachers, but they seem to have a great group at the moment, and we've loved the teachers our child has had in her core classroom every single year. The school is EXTREMELY diverse - you couldn't have a bigger melting pot of students.

At the moment, my biggest peeve about the place is that they do not allow birthday celebrations at all and they celebrate that fall festival thing instead of having a Halloween Parade. There are not a whole lot of celebratory type events like that at Page, but the learning environment is supportive and my child has been happy there.

Yes, but my experience is when I went there in the 1980s. From what I gather, the school is vastly different now than what I experienced.

While I haven't had any children attend that school I used to work with the principal and she is FANTASTIC! Truly one in a million!

Bump. My child is having a horrible year so far at WT Page. The administration is non-responsive and gaslights parents. There is a new Assistant Principal.

The school does not seem to like being an immersion school. So if you’re in the immersion program, that may be why.

Sorry to hear this. We’ve had the opposite experience with Principal Brown and admin staff during DC’s past few years there—they have been very responsive. We have also felt that the admin is supportive of both the English Academy and immersion programs, and the PTA is strong.

Why do you think that?

I attended WT Page in the early 80s and loved it. Hi, old neighbor.

Is it as diverse as New Haven CT?
