New background check requirement

FYI- PGCPS has implemented a new background check policy. If you are going to volunteer more than once at the school or for any field trip you need to be fingerprinted and have a Child Protective Services background check. The commercial background check is not sufficient for Field Trips any longer.
I went to the fingerprinting office today and the whole process took 1 hour. There is a waiver of the fingerprinting fee for families who qualify for free and reduced lunch.
Nothing has been updated on the website and may principals are only learning about it now.

Good to know. How much does the CPS background check cost? Is it still $7.00 to be fingerprinted?

Fingerprinting is ~$60
CPS search is free.

A few years ago my husband and I did both the fingerprinting and background check which is good for our children's entire time in PGCPS. Not trying to be flippant, just trying to make sure I understand. We now have to go back and get a different background check? Thanks for posting this info because when I heard someone mention the CPS background check they never clarified that the previous check was "commercial" and is no longer sufficient.

I think that the previous fingerprinting is still valid. I have a call into the fingerprinting office and will ask when they call back.
