Homeschooling as a single parent?

Anonymous
How do single parents manage to homeschool? Even assuming p/t work with flexible hours, it sounds daunting. Anyone have any insights to share?

If your child is older and can stay home alone to work, then mayyyybe. There are group lessons and structured activities for homeschoolers, so you could cobble together a schedule for when you're at work.

I homeschool my kindergartener in the morning and work in the afternoon while he is with his grandma. This works for us. Homeschooling does not take as many hours as a school, so if you have everything planned and know what you need to get done for that day, it's manageable. We also don't confine "learning" to sitting and doing busy work. We take walks, go to the park, library, etc and there are opportunities to teach and for him to Learn while doing this. For older children, they will need more time, but would also be more independent.
