Hi My son is in 5th grade in Loudoun school dist. I heard that there is an IOWA test sometime in DEC/Jan. Does anyone know what kind of test is that and what are the topics for that test?
What level he needs to be prepared? Are there are sample test questions to prep him up based on. Appreciate any help !!!!! |
IT'S AN ALGEBRA READINESS TEST. |
I'm not sure OP gets that you want her to stop shouting. |
It's an algebra aptitude test that assesses students' current abilities in a variety of areas (computation, concepts and symbols, etc.) that is used to identify students whose mathematical skills are ready to progress to algebra or who need pre-algebra to develop those skills. IMO there is also a developmental piece--some kids are ready for algebra earlier or later than others. Kids have the option to take algebra much earlier than the once did, but it is not always the best option for every kid. |
Thank you. All.!! |
How many kids take Algebra in Loudoun in 6th grade? Seems early. |
Growing up in NJ in the 80s, the Iowa tests were the annual generic standardized tests at our school - no studying involved, and they tested math, reading, etc. |
Same in Baltimore County when I was growing up. We took the Iowa Test of Basic Skills in 4th and 5th grades (possibly 3rd grade too). It was the only standardized test we ever took until the SATs in high school. |
No honey, You are referring to the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. Sometimes called the "Basic skills test." That tests reading, math, social studies, grammar, etc. It is not the same as the Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test to which OP refers. The IAAT tests a student's readiness to take Algebra... that is all. |
