Currently at 2R Young PK4, second year. I'm expecting to get a call off Lamb list as list moved quite a bit, Lamb location - either campus is more convenient for me than 2R Young. DS already speaks some spanish and hes pretty advanced academically for his age.
Anyone who changed schools mid year have any advice for helping with the transition? Thoughts on leaving 2R Young for Lamb? Thanks |
| It isn't mid year-- it's two-three weeks into school. Kids are resilient. |

I agree that the timing of this transfer vis-à-vis the start of the school year wouldn't be particularly bothersome to me. For me the more important questions would be:
(1) How do I think my child will react to having to go from a school with which he is familiar by virtue of having been there for over a year (and presumably where he has friends) to a brand new school where he doesn't know anyone? If you have an adaptable and/or extroverted kid they may make the adjustment and make new friends easily. If your kid doesn't do well in new situations or is painfully shy, then you might want to consider that. Adding to the equation is the fact that (I think?) LAMB is immersion -- how is your child based on his personality likely to adjust to the added stress of not being able to communicate in his native language? (Although the fact he speaks some Spanish is helpful.) (2) What are my preferences education-wise longer term? LAMB and 2Rivers have (as you know) very different educational models. We for example considered some of the Montessori schools for our DD in the PK3 lottery, but ultimately turned down a slot because -- while we liked the idea of Montessori for the early education grades -- we were more skeptical of it as an educational model once she got to the elementary grades, and we didn't want to take the chance that at that point we would be unable to get into a school that better aligned with what we anticipated wanting. |
| Yes, but OP, was your son a NMSF this year? |
What is NMSF? OP here |

| We moved our son 3 weeks into PS and it was super easy. Also for a closer and better school, no regrets at all. I think especially at that age, socially your child won't miss a beat if you think Lamb is a good fit. (And personally immersion and dci options would be very hard to turn down). Hope you get the call! |
| LAMB parent with a child who started at PK4 ages ago here. No advice about moving midyear, but don't let starting immersion a year later than some dissuade you. The PK4 students catch up fast. |
| Another academically advanced 3 year old. Wow DC must hold some world record! |
This is the highest concentration of PhDs in the country. Why are you surprised? |
I didn't even get through this posters "book". They're way overthinking. This kid will be fine. It's all about how you frame and prep. |

LAMB parent here. There is a new student in our class, and our teachers have done a wonderful job of including that child. We have been all instructed to welcome them, and I think they're adjusting well. I suspect your child will fill a slot in one of the new classes where almost all the students are new. I was initially skeptical of the Montessori Method, but after having multiple children at LAMB I am a convert. Try to attend one of the Montessori workshops to better understand how your child is learning at school. I am sure your child will be fine!
Congratulations! |
| It really depends on whether you want Montessori immersion or the two rivers approach. My child has a hard time with transitions so when I had to decide it was important that I was at a school I'm happy with and my child is happy at (ITS), and I didn't want be in a grass is greener situation. They are both good schools so you won't go wrong! |
