My goddaughter is planning on coming out to spend the week of the 4th of July with my family, and I need to find some kind of program for her during the day while I'm at work and my son is at camp. Her birthday is Thursday of the week before so she'll only be 13 and 3 days on the
1) Enrollment week by week 2) Nothing with an academic component -- she's got severe dyslexia so things like theater camp which assume kids can read fluently aren't a good choice. 3) She doesn't have a specific interest but would like something with arts and/or sports (she's mentioned volleyball, tennis, lacrosse and swimming), she doesn't want kayaking or rock climbing or anything too "dirty" or "extreme" -- she's kind of a "girlie girl" in that respect. I think a "sampler" kind of camp where she could try different things would be a good bet for her. 4) It needs to have an extended day program of some kind. We live and I work in the Petworth area of DC. I'll be dropping my son off near Chevy Chase circle so something in Bethesda/Chevy Chase would work well too. Thanks! |
My niece (13 yrs old) came to visit me last summer and really enjoyed Sidwell's 1 week programs for middle schoolers - Explore Star. Can make a day from various choices - some academic and some not (science to cooking to fashion design and jewelry). Lots of other kids from all over and she made friends quickly. We did the extended day as well - a teen lounge or something she really liked. Good luck looking! |
Imagination Stage has flex week camps that are at Sidwell and their main site in Bethesda. You can check their website to see what that week is-they change every week but they also are really good about addressing special needs and inclusion if you/your niece was concerned about her dyslexia being a problem. |
