Hi Ladies, I have a quick question. Has anyone else in any of their pregnancies felt sick really early (like only 4+ weeks)? I have NO appetite most of the time, and occasionally I have these little heaves (sorry if TMI). I have been hungry when dinner comes and eat, and it goes down okay, but afterward I feel like I need to puke. Really, I am no more than a little over 4 weeks!
It wasn't this way with DS at all. With him, I was a little nauseated around 6 or so weeks and not much. I guess I am taking it as a good sign that my hCG is rising as it should, but it's just surprising. Any similar experiences? TIA... |
Yes, it's actually how I first knew I was pregnant (baby was a surprise). I felt sick the very day I missed my period. |
To the PP, and everything turn out okay? (This is the OP). I am guessing the nausea can't be a bad thing, right? |
Pregnancy #1 for me was very easy. Vomitted once. Pregnancy #2 was difficult because I vomited nearly every morning for the first 9 weeks. After that, it was a beautiful and easy pregnancy. Now I'm pregnant with #3 and I just feel so tired I can't function. I've vomited only once and I'm 11 weeks along. Each pregnancy is different. I've learned that after the first trimester things almost always improve. |
Actually, nausea is a good thing. It means you have plenty of the pregnancy hormone to make you sick and there is some evidence that those with symptoms are less likely to miscarry. Congratulations! |
Op Here: thanks everyone for your replies! |
I was lucky enough to not get sick at all in the beginning, but in talking to a friend whose dad is a ob I learned that there are medicines out there that are perfectly safe for pregnant women and can treat your nausea. I can't recall the name but she swore by it. I'd ask your doc, why suffer if you don't have to? |
Yep, I had the same thing with my 2nd pregnancy. I knew I was pregnant before I even missed my period - was naseous and very burping. Had some bad morning sickness in both pregnancies into my 2nd trimester but started sooner with #2. Sucks, sucks, I know. Hang in there. It's teh only thing you can do!! |
I think eating really small, frequent meals help. I'm having a hard time gaining weight b/c of what you described, and if I basically graze constantly, I get less of that "I'm going to puke" feeling after eating a normal sized meal. It's a totally different experience from my first pregnancy FWIW.

Sorry about the nausea, but I agree it is a good sign. Try Sea Bands (available at Rite Aid, Walgreens) - they work wonders! |
I had hyperemis during pregnancy number one--I was prescribed phenegram which didn't work and then zofran which did--I am not going to say it made me feel like dancing but it allowed me to function. My only regret looking back is that I didn't try meds sooner--I was so nervous and it made for many months of hell. Ask your doc for meds if it gets too much for you. These meds are perfectly safe! |
Ditto everyone above. And if you were fine with DS, I'd say you're having a girl! I was waaaaaaaay sicker with DD than DS.
I found seabands to be worse than nothing. They kept me from throwing up, but as soon as I took them off, I was violently ill. Use with caution. Zofran is a wonder drug! |
i had 24/7 sickness with # one beginning at 6 wks, with #2 nausea started at 5 wks andlike you =i knew i was prego, both pregnancy my nausea lasted until week 14-15, then i could finally eat normal food again, i vomitted daily for both throughout entire first trimester-doctors always told me just to eat whatever i could keep down (bread and cheese sandwiches and soda), and that i had very high healthy hormone levels "preserving the pregnancy"...good luck, just take it one moment at a time and know it will end soon!!! |
Yeah, I tired phenergen but it made me sooo tired. I took Zofran twice/day for a few months and it did help. Kept me from throwing up and losing weight, but didn't solve it. Just made it easier to live with. Not fun at all!! |
