Current draft scenarios: https://www.fcpsboundaryreview.org/ |
The only reason timber lane is an island is because in 2013/2014 fairfax sold land to falls church city to end water wars. Unfair to now have our kids leave their schools/friends because of being an island but no other issues. |
Won’t be official till next year. We’re expecting the first actual proposed map later this summer, I think. |
The maps will come out over rhe summer when everyone is on vaxation, with a bunch more very controversial changes that were not on any of the original maps, taking a lot of people by surprise who thought they were in the clear (I am looking at you, Daventry and Hunt Valley. Don't drop your guard yet.) Sneaking in bad news over summer vacation is the FCPS way. |
Did that have to do with the new Meridian High School and adjacent development? |
Sadly, after the map tool maps were different than the final “capacity” maps in the PPT slides … I agree with this. Expect bad news at 4 PM on June 13. (It’s also a Friday!) That’s about when the dropped the bomb on us about the 3 hour early release Wednesdays. |
The community engagement is supposed to take place Sept/Oct so I’m expecting the next draft to come out Labor Day weekend. |
Thank you! |
No one in Hunt Valley thinks we’re in the clear. They’ve made that very obvious. The question is what shoe drops next for us. Assuming we get sent to Lewis. |
So it seems like flint hill ES might get more economically diverse? |
That's not quite right. The Timber Lane island would still be separated from the rest of the McLean attendance area by an area zoned to Shrevewood and other property previously owned by Falls Church City. It's still fair to ask whether the island is really a problem worth fixing, either by bridging it or eliminating it. |
lol - just noticed that the Emerald Chase HOA website moved their instructions on how to manipulate the system behind a username/password login now. |
It went from being a weird peninsula to an island. The land that was traded was where City of Falls Church had two schools, it wasn’t like there was housing on it. |
For years Mary Ellen Henderson MS and George Mason (now Meridian) HS sat on property owned by Fairfax County even though they are Falls Church City schools. One of the FCC elementary schools (Mt. Daniel ES) still sits in Fairfax County. For years, some Fairfax County residents got their water from a water utility owned by Falls Church City. It was very expensive and the county residents getting water from the FCC-owned utility claimed they were getting gouged. As part of a deal, FCC transfered the water utility to the county, and the county transferred a parcel of land, including the land where Henderson and Meridian are now located, to FCC. There's been later development on that parcel, which is near the West Falls Church Metro, as well. |
Nope, it was already an island. It's just a more noticeable island now than it was before. |
