Trump is screwing ove DC

The new Trump hotel in the Old Post Office Pavilion will have a lane on Pennsylvania Ave for its valet parking. As far as I know, this is the only hotel or restaurant on Pennsylvania Ave that has control of a traffic lane in front of its building. Mayor Bowser and the DC Council insist that the area will be accessible to pedestrians and protestors during special events. However, because of the lane restriction the Japanese-American Society of Washington had to relocate its street festival during the Cherry Blossom Parade from Pennsylvania Ave to Navy Yard. This was the first time in 16 years that they didn't have their street festival on Pennsylvania Ave.

Trump’s team also promised the GSA when bidding for the contract to use a particular architect for the project. But Arthur Cotton Moore, an architect who had renovated historic buildings in the area, was not retained once the deal was signed. It should be noted a $32 million tax subsidy the Trump Organization has applied for hinges on preserving the building’s historic character. I wouldn't be surprised if they get the subsidy regardless of how the building is renovated.
Trump had also agreed to bring on a multibillion-dollar real estate investment, Colony Capital. Instead of teaming up with Colony as advertised, Trump put the federal lease on the property up as collateral to secure a $170M loan.

I hate Trump as much as the next person but this seems a wee bit hyperbolic. It's pretty easy to grease the wheels at the District Building, particularly when the Mayor doesn't exactly have a antideveloper stance.

It was screwed after the gentrification

Arthur Cotton Moore is an effing legend who would insist on every single penny that he contracted for being paid to him. Of course Trump doesn't want to hire him.

I remember when they first revitalized the old post office and how much we enjoyed it. I think its going to be a beautiful hotel. I agree that he shouldn't get to control a multipurpose street like Penn Ave and that should be scrutinized.

The Labor Department is investigating the Old Post Office project already.

Well that gives you a taste of what is to come if he wins.

Look the churches stop bike lanes in this town. Why not let Trump have a lane or two? It's not like DC will enforce blocking traffic. Better to have it designed into the project vs it just happens.

Who the F would want to stay at a Trump hotel after this fiasco? At least before the Trump brand stood for ostentatious, faux-luxurious consumer goods and housing that could peddled mostly to unsuspecting foreigners. Now it's just associated with a batshit-crazy wanna-be fascist who can't even pull off a Berlusconi. This property will change hands again, just like the shuttle.

That is not at all the same. In fact it's the opposite. In one case, DC wants to take property from certain churches to build a bike lane. In the other case DC is giving public property to a hotel for their personal use.

The Wall Street journal reported that the hotel has only $7,400 in reservations. That's very low considering that the hotel opens in a month.

Not only that, but church goers illegally park like crazy on Sundays and the city openly refuses to do anything about it.

Exactly - most people wouldn't want to be associated with Trump. It won't remain in his hands for long and he'll likely need the cash to pay the triple damages from the rico lawsuit.

You know you've been on DCUM too long when you read the headline "Trump is screwing over DC" and wonder how the OP's child is getting hurt by Trump.
