Whitney Plantation

I would like to give a hearty thank you to the poster who recommended this tour. I am in New Orleans with my family and there are several different plantation tours to choose from. I remembered your recommendation for the Whitney tour and it was a wonderful tour. I have been on other plantation visits and this is totally different than any I've either visited. The visuals are different. The narrative is different. The atmosphere is different.

FWIW, If anyone is planning on this tour in the near future, I spoke to some other attendees at the conference I'm attending in New Orleans who also made the trip to the Whitney Plantation. The consensus is to wait and do your tour with the male tour guide. His presentation was so much more than the female's presentation. We surmised that she was trying to be too political correct in her presentation, and thus hemmed and hawed on difficult questions that were asked of her by those taking the tour.

Thanks again to the DCUM person who recommended it.

Bumping this because I found only one other DCUM reference that cited a NYT article but poster had not been. This plantation is apparently unique in that it focuses on what slavery was really about. I am wondering if anyone else can offer their impressions, please. Planning to take elementary school-aged children and trying to determine how intense the tour/experience might be for them. Thank you.
