Preschool in Bethesda/Cabin John

Any recommendations? The Clara Barton Children's center has no openings unfortunately. Everywhere else I look is super expensive. Our daughter is 5 in October. Looking for fun, playful and kindergarten readiness. Thanks so much!

We loved Westmoreland Children's Center, there are three locations along Mass Ave. Do you need full time preschool? I've been hearing that the coops have openings: Bannockburn, Concord St Andrews. Suburban. They cost less but are not full time and require parent time commitments.

Sorry to hear that Clara Barton doesn't have openings. That's a fantastic place. I'd recommend that you make sure they know you want to stay on a waitlist in case something opens up. Families do sometimes have to move part way through the year.

We live near the Apple Montessori school on Hidden Creek Rd.. I don't know much about it, but you might want to ask about openings there if you haven't already.

Not too far away is St. James Children's School in Potomac on 7 Locks. They have a certified K as well as preschool. Your kid could do actual K. There's a sign up that says there are openings.

Thank you all for the feedback! I am on a waitlist with Clara Barton. There are a ton of religious affiliated preschools, however, we are not a religious family and I would prefer her education not include that, for the time being (we are open minded and whatever she chooses to venture into in her life will be her choice, but for now we would like to focus on other things). I will look into these programs though and see what they have to offer!

We loved Junior Kindergarten at Harbor School in Bethesda.

+1. Our child was in the preschool program, not JK, but we also loved this school. We have multiple kids and had multiple middling experiences with preschool--Harbor was a total home run.

Just want to add another coop to the list, if you are considering them. Our family has been very happy at Glenbrook (on Fernwood Road). It is located in a church, though not church-affiliated. Good luck!

The Playgroup in the Park at Glen Echo has an opening in their Little Echoes program. It's a little more expensive than some of the coops but its a great program.

Lone Oak Montessori is right there behind Cabin John at Democracy/Old Georgetown intersection. My DD went there for 7 years and thrived there.

Have you looked into Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church Nursery School?

St. James is affiliated with a church but not super religious. They say grace before meals and have 30 minutes of chapel once a week -- and it's frequently canceled if a volunteer doesn't show up to lead it. The K teacher and program there are amazing. I think you are being short sighted.

Bannockburn Nursery School is wonderful. My oldest loved it there and still loves going back there for events and reunions. My youngest is currently enrolled and about to start the pre-k class there. The teachers, aides, and director are amazing and very supportive. If you are considering a co-op, I highly recommend checking it out.
