We live in Chevy Chase DC and by Sept our child will be 20 months old. I know I am late to the game to be asking this!
Any good recommendations for a super-good toddler learning program? thanks |
You might want to check out the DC parks and Rec co-op program. I am not sure what the starting age is - it might be 18 months |
Though it is in Rockville, I would highly recommend the toddler class at Children's Learning Center (CLC) which I believe still has room for next year. Unlike a lot of toddler programs, it is a part of a school (CLC has a fantastic preschool and elementary school). In addition, they truly teach the children. My son has learned to clear his plate, eat at the table with the others (which was no small accomplishment for him!), line up and wait his turn to wash his hands, sit in circle time, learn new songs, do art projects, transition between activities, etc. As a part of the school, they also have library and music during the week with the resource teachers. The facility is amazing. The classrooms are very large (the toddler room is 1500 square feet) and there is a wonderful all purpose room across the hall where the toddlers can play during the day and the classroom walks out onto a wonderful toddler playground. The best part is that the lead toddler teacher has been teaching at CLC for 30 years now and is absolutely incredible. I believe you can decide how many days you want to go and what hours (toddler class goes from 9:30-1 or 9:30-3:30 and there is before care -7-9:30 - as well as after care - 3:30-6 - if you need it. I cannot recommend this program highly enough. Good luck! |
There are two programs in the DC Parks and Recs that start at 18 months. Registration opened this morning so if interested, I 'd check it out fairly quick. The sites are in the Palisades and Columbia Heights locations. Most of the other sites start at 2 .5. http://dpr.dc.gov/dpr/cwp/view,a,1241,q,641000.asp |
