Usha Vance - Fashion Thread

Is it no one’s job to say, “Straighten your dress just a bit so it looks better in the photo?” If my photo is being professionally taken, I sure hope someone tells me! I sure hope someone tells her if she walks out of the ladies room with toilet paper stuck to her shoes!

The fact that you’re actually equating a complete nonissue (her seams??) with a mortifying TP incident makes it clear you are a drama queen.

She does indeed have a headshot on that page.

She looks nice here. I like it!

I hate the color of the dress.

You probably hate the shade of the dress because it doesn't complement your coloring. It doesn't complement Usha's. But it is a color that flatters some (like me).

On the other hand, the first thing I thought when I saw Usha in the pink coat was how much the shade flattered her. (Wouldn't do a thing for me.)

She should wear that shade of pink more and stay away from that shade of chestnut brown. Either that or wear a scarf in a flattering shade near her face. But then she would be mocked for wearing a scarf.

If this thread has taught us anything it's that she will be mocked for anything and everything.

Yep. Nothing she wears will ever please certain posters. It’s comical, the pretzel-twisting going on here to make up nonexistent fashion faux pas.

I know people were talking about how old she looks earlier, and I actually disagreed with them until now - up until now I thought she looked like she was in her late 30s, but in this picture she looks like a youthful 50 year old (she actually looks a lot like my sister, but my sister highlights her hair to get rid of the grays).

Yes, I’m not sure why she looks so old - most of my south Asian friends look so young - but she does.

DP. I find her to be very youthful looking. The grays don’t help, but her face is very pretty and young. Great smile too.

The single point of interest this dress/outfit has are those seams. That's it. So, with that being the focal point, you'd think someone would've cared enough about the one detail the dress had to pay attention to making sure it was correct.

They used a hack photographer using a canned headshot pose. I have had my picture taken in this awkward pose - she is sitting on an uncomfortable stool, her body is seated with her knees pointing to the right, but her upper body is twisted slightly to face the photographer. She had no chance with that dress and this pose. A good photographer would have known better and taken the picture with her standing up. That doesn't excuse the color of her dress, but the pose is the reason the seams aren't straight and her breasts look crooked. I blame the photographer or whoever insisted she sit down for the headshot.

No she is leaning against a stool.

Regardless, her body is twisted. Why did the photographer pose her with her body twisted?

It's like they were aiming for this, but screwed up:

Headshot Pose 2: The 3/4 Angle
The 3/4 angle headshot pose is a variation of the classic, where instead of facing the camera directly, your body is turned slightly to one side. You can either look directly at the camera from an angle, or keep your gaze in the distance. This pose can add a sense of movement and dimension to the photograph, as well as creating a more dynamic and interesting composition.

For this pose, turn slightly to one side with your shoulders squared and your head still held high. For a business headshot we recommend looking directly into the camera lens, which can help establish a sense of connection and engagement with the viewer. Your arms can still be relaxed at your sides, in your pockets, or you can also try one arm placed on the hip or crossed over the chest. As usual, stand up straight, keep your shoulders back and your head can be tilted slightly upward, but not so much that it looks unnatural.

The 3/4 angle headshot pose is a great option for people who want to add a sense of movement and dimension. Depending on your expression and style, this pose can also convey a sense of energy and confidence, making it a good choice for actors, models, or anyone in a creative field looking for a more dynamic look.

This thread just reminds me that DCUM is not the place for fashion. Half the people in this thread would recommend Merrill shoes as fashionable for walking around Paris (if you haven’t read those threads, please do). The Reem dress looks like a $500 prom dress I wore in 2004.

Let’s not forget the worn down Tory Burch flats she wore during campaign events.

Anyway, I hope she invests in some better looks. All she has to do is go to Saks and ask for a stylist to help her. She needs to stop asking her lawyer friends to dress her.

My god. I would never in a million years have even noticed her seams. Never. Consider that this could be a you problem. It’s a great picture of her.
DP

I noticed the seam was twisted and the top was wrinkled - it's the first thing my eye went to. I actually do like the color on her and I think she looks pretty and normal (and smart, and approachable) in the pic (yes, older than she is, but that's fine). But her clothes should have been straightened. This is an official portrait for gd's sake, take a second to get it right.

Cue the downplays and the naysayers. It's their second job now, and they are in it to win it.

Doesn't change what it is, though. You can shout down and insult posters here if you want, but people all over are still talking about it. A better use of the energy is just to get a stylist for formal appearances and do better.

All this frantic defense to make her feel better just makes her look more out of place and thin-skinned. Sad.

This. And go to a dermatologist. Nobody with resources needs to look older than they are now. Laser etc. would help.

I'd never be jumping on someone in their private life for not attending to the details -- straight seams, good fit, unscuffed shoes. I mean, don't be going out in your bra and parachute pants to direct traffic, but you know -- clean, covering everything, and functional. That;s fine.

But campaign events are job events. Official headshots are work-related. Formal State affairs are due some time and effort. And *none* of this came as a complete surprise to anyone in this country, not since the November election. This wasn't like someone received the invitation yesterday, on their way home from work.

None of you have the figure to pull this off so that is probably why you are spewing. Atrapless not age appropriate for her though. She is a smart cookie so don’t care much about her looks.

The greys need to go though no just no!

Yes, nobody in the world has a figure as sweetly fine as Usha Vance.

Okay.
