When is the next round of changes submitted? |
Does anyone think any of this feedback will help? We have people in WSHS who think it’s just a front and Reid will make her changes and then the board will make more and we will be even more screwed than we are now. Obviously they can’t let all of us “win” our battle or what’s the point of boundary changes? So who gets lucky and has no changes? |
You really do not "get" that this is a bad idea. Nice in theory but not practical at all. Some schools are at the very edge of their zip. I can think of one that is on the line of two zip codes and within a mile of three additional ones. It is a school with a compact boundary and is attended by kids of at least four zips and no one has a commute of more than ten minutes. |
There are houses in Fairfax county that have Arlington zip codes. There are houses in Arlington that have zip codes in Fairfax County. The zip codes do not align with census boundaries at all. They are based on what is efficient for the post office. |
We all should have no changes. It shouldn’t be who can complain the loudest or who can kiss Sniveling Sandy’s ass. There is only one school (Coates) that really needs changes. Maybe 2 if you count Parklawn. The rest is just unnecessary pain for students caused by a sb who has no sense of the duty to do no harm. |
DP. Some kids at Pimmit Hills walk to Marshall, but I think PP was talking about kids on the Marshall side of Route 7 next to the school who are zoned to Lemon Road. The latest Thru proposals move all of Lemon Road, including this area, to McLean. I don't think those kids will end up at McLean, but the rest of Lemon Road might. In that case, they might consider giving the families in that area the option to either stay at Lemon Road or get moved to a 100% Marshall feeder like Freedom Hill. |
Agreed, they’re the real heroes. And they smell so good, too! |
Yes, my point is they shouldn’t move them even if the rest of Lemon Road gets reassigned to McLean. They should keep them at Lemon Road for now and wait until after Dunn Loring opens to see how the lines will fall for the new school. Otherwise those families could be moved during the 2026-27 school year and then again in the 2028 school year when Dunn Loring is supposed to open. |
Sure. So all those houses you descibe will maintain the current stsus quo, and be subject to the rezoning review every 5 years. Right now, ALL fcps houses are subject to a 5 year rezoning review. Freezing the houses that reside in the exact same zip code as the high school address will simplify the process and provide some consistency and stability for the residents living closest to the high school addresses. I will say it again, if your house is located in the exact same zip code as the high school you should not be at rish of getting rezoned from that high school. |
The school board already said NO grandfathering. They would be insane to allow elementary schools to grandfather, while denying it to high school sophomores, juniors.and possibly even seniors. |
They should move all of Pimmit to Lemon Road. It makes no sense to have an apartment complex cut in half so if they move buildings, they move schools. They are walking distance to Lemon Road and are closer to Shrevewood and Westgate. |
That makes total sense to me. No idea whether Dunn Loring will actually open in 2028 - have they even broken ground yet - but there ought to be some ability to keep people from getting moved multiple times within just a few years. |
It is cruel to make a rising HS senior switch schools. |
|
False. They said they would only grandfather rising seniors. |
