| MY DD likes going to starbucks before school. Is it bad to take adderall and go to starbucks and buy a java chip before school? |
| Why aren't you asking, you know, a doctor? |
| Drinking that daily would be bad for anyone. |
| If it doesn't bother your child, it isn't a problem. If the combination makes her jittery, then cut the caffeine. |
I am sure it makes her jittery, but no compaints from her teachers. She doing alright in school. SO I guess I can't tell her no. At least is not deadly.. She works part time and spends her money at starbucks. I only go there like once a month |
| isn't this like asking is it bad to smoke cigarettes? I can remember my parents saying no one knew cigarettes were bad for them. and someone that gives coffee and stimulants to a high school kid, just insane. go buy them a red bull and taffy every day also. |
| I take Adderal and can drink coffee with it. It really only has that speedy affect on those who don't need it but abuse it. |
How old is she? What's her job schedule? |
| Caffeine actually calms my ADHD son. He has a coffee break every day. |
Why not. It's little heart can handle it.
|
| Our developmental pedi told me that coffee is really a mild version of the ADHD meds. She hit the nail on the head when she told me that some parents of ADHD kids probably have ADHD themselves but just self-medicate with coffee (that's me). Anyway, it's probably fine. One of my co-workers takes Adderall and drinks coffee but he has to carefully regulate it or he will get anxious if he drinks too much coffee. If she's functioning well, it's probably fine. |

Adult ADHD on Adderall and coffee is fine in small doses. As others have said, stimulants have the opposite effect on ADHD. But too much coffee can push it out of the calming range and into jittery. It can also bump up heart rate and BP. Her MD should definately know about regular caffeine use.
That said, I would not want my kid drinking a Starbucks Frappachino every day. Caffeine aside, that's a lot of processed sugar first thing in the morning. I would look at that drink and my ADHD kid and think, hell no-- the sugar crash mid morning is going to be awful. If your teen is taking herself and spending her own money, I guess it's hard to put a stop to. But I would encourage her to think of Starbucks as a once a week thing (it's my Monday am treat), rather than a daily thing. |
| Wow! I just looked this up, and a grande java chip (not even a venti) has 370 calories (bad). And 66 grams of sugar (more than double the recommended daily allowance for women). So no, you DD should not drink one of these every day. |
Exactly. Wondering if she's overweight or if this is a major source of her daily "nutrition." What else does she mostly eat, OP? |
| Why is she having a milkshake every day? |
