Approx cost to replace a cedar shake roof?

I am a first time home buyer and the existing roof looks worn. I'd prefer to replace it with cedar shakes for aesthetic reasons.

What is the existing roof made out of?

The existing roof is wood shakes.

We were recently looking at a house that had a cedar shake roof that needed to be replaced. A cedar shake roof cost 3-5 times more to replace than asphalt shingles.

Run a 40.00 roofr report.

Take the roof square footage and divide by 100 - that’s the size of the roof in squares.

Reliable estimate is about 2000.00 a square.

Caveat emptor with hiring.

Should be hand nailed with stainless steel nails, should be tapersawn pressure treated shingles, etc.

Don’t hire the wrong guy.
