How many kids do you have and how much do you spend per month on their activities?

We have three and I just added it up and it comes to around $800 per month. The kids do tennis (3), soccer (2), and gymnastics (2), and horseback riding (1).

Does this sound crazy or is about what you spend?

My kids only do one travel sport each, so total about $2500-$3000 each a year. Plus summer swim team which is cheap.

There's a reason why only rich families do horseback riding. It's an expensive sport.

Two kids. They each do two sports, nothing serious. Probably $100-150 per season.

DD does scouts, which is free because of cookie sales. And some school activities like drama club, also free.

2 kids
music lessons - $360 a month
after school classes x 2 each - $480 total for both over 8 weeks

The horseback riding isn't that expensive btw. It's $45 for 50 min. Two our other kids do a private tennis lesson that is 45 for 45 min.

1 kid. $200 a month during the school year for extracurricular activities. Piano ($1,000 for the school year), a language class ($800), and one sport this spring season ($200). He's 9.

Nothing during the summer, unless you could camps, but I use those for day care.

Two kids-Each do house soccer which is about $130/season/child and swimming lessons (once/week) which runs $55/child/month.

My children find it stressful to do multiple activities at once.

2 kids, age 11 and 12

One does girl scouts ($25/yr plus occasional other expenses), fencing (not at a high level) averages about $150/month with an occasional tournament that might bump that up but mostly her tournaments are $50 or less. She was also taking an after school programming class which was about $75/month but taking a break from that right now.

One does rec soccer, I don't remember what this season's registration fee was, definitely less than $100. Also golf, averaging about $100/month. Equipment was expensive but like fencing it just has to be replaced as he outgrows things (and my dad's a big golfer so he likes to give him clubs, balls, etc.), Also participates in church youth group at little cost.

Both kids also play in school band so we rent their instruments but don't do any private lessons so the cost is minimal.

So, regular on-going expenses are about $250/month. Another couple hundred during the year for registration fees etc.

We have 2 kids and only do 1 sport per season plus music plus girl scouts.
Sports vary by season and year but never more than $100 for a month(per child), and usually half that.
Music lessons are either $140/month or free (for the years they only did school music lessons/band/orchestra)
Scouts is minimal..$25/year maybe plus occasional fees for outings/campouts, also minimal.

I think the fact that your kids are participating in multiple, private (meaning more costly) lessons is what you are paying for. If you can afford it, then continue. If it is too much, then cut back to one activity per season to simplify both time and money committments.

I have four kids. Two have graduated from college so for these purposes, don't count. We easily spend around what you do.

3 kids

-travel soccer $3K/year
-rec soccer $120/season x 2 seasons a year x 3 kids
-travel baseball $300/season (the team plays in a travel league and have a hired coach for practices but dads for games so this = less money).
-little league--$120 season x 2 seasons
-piano $36/lesson per week x 3 kids

No, it's not what I spend. For the next 6 weeks, I'm only spending $80 for one activity for 2 kids (it would have been double but we had a credit). What I hear you asking is "Am I normal?" or "Should I feel guilty?". You're probably on the bell curve. Some people spend alot, some don't. It also depends on your financial situation and how busy you want your kids to be.

Two kids. We spend nothing.

Two kids, but one is just 2. Each kid currently does one activity. It's around $130/month total, but it's only during part of the school year.

Two kids but one is a toddler. For the older one, we spend about $250/month for guitar lessons, soccer, scouts.
