Barcroft Elementary

Any parents out there who live in Barcroft or know anything about the area? Looking for thoughts on safety and whether it is a family friendly place to live...also would love to hear thoughts on Barcroft Elementary--I understand it is a year round school and am curious to hear what parents do during the breaks/vacations that occur throughout the school year.

We do not live in Barcroft but we live in a neighborhood close by. I like the Barcroft neighborhood a lot, we have friends that live there, and there are lots of families and children that live there. I've heard nothing but great things about the elementary school, that the principal is great, and I love the idea of the year round school - wish my elementary had the same schedule. Makes life so much easier and more flexible for family vacations, child care, etc.

I've been told the school offers special "camps" for the breaks in the intersessions (I think that means the shorter breaks during the year, like 2 weeks off or whatever in the fall and spring, not Christmas break) and also during the slightly longer summer break. I personally would love to be able to take family vacations in spring or fall when everyone else is still in school and the weather isn't hot/cold....

I think it's great to keep the kids engaged all year round. Sorry no first-hand experience but I've heard lots of positive things from others.

I believe Arlington provides another option if year-round isn't for you. Don't know where, though.

Barcroft is a very pretty neighborhood.
