Bernie Sander's Resume

Anonymous
I was looking for Bernie Sander's resume out of curiosity and found the following link: http://www.sanders.senate.gov/about

What caught my eye was he graduated in 1964 and was elected as a mayor in 1981. When I looked further I found that he did not work in a job until 1981. So, basically he did not work until 40 years. That is a awful long time for someone to not work. I am not sure what to make out of a person like that.

How did you verify that he didn't have a job for 15 years? That's a long gap, and it would make me question how he even got elected if it were accurate.

He worked as a carpenter. Is that not a respectable job? He also made documentary films.

This is what it says about that time from Wikipedia:

After graduating from college, Sanders returned to New York City, where he initially worked in a variety of jobs, including Head Start teacher, psychiatric aide, and carpenter.[30] In 1968, Sanders moved to Vermont because he had been "captivated by rural life." After his arrival there he worked as a carpenter, filmmaker, and writer[44] who created and sold "radical film strips" and other educational materials to schools.[45] He also wrote several articles for the alternative publication The Vermont Freeman.[46]

From biography.com
"After finishing college in 1964 with a degree in political science, Sanders lived on a kibbutz in Israel before settling in Vermont. He worked a number of jobs, including filmmaker and freelance writer, psychiatric aide, and teaching low-income children through Head Start, while his interest in politics grew."

Politico provides some more detail about that period as well:

Can't decide what to make of it, but it's interesting nonetheless.

The funny thing is that this makes me like him more. A Head Start teacher? Is that true? Certainly better than a lawyer for Walmart.

PP again. I wonder what DCUM would make of his abilities as "provider" based on the description of the apartment he had while sharing custody of his son.

I also love the fact that he and Jane were already pretty well known among punk rockers for helping to shape the Northeast Punk scene by opening a youth center where bands could play. I don;t expect this to impress Hillary supporters but some of us music geeks are impressed.

Which presidential candidate was a lawyer for Walmart? Because Hillary Clinton was not.

Okay, okay, I believe her firm represented Walmart. If I am incorrect, I apologize.

Perhaps this helped form his dedication to helping low income people, especially single parents. Interesting.

Bernie is not interested in helping single parents. He is interested in sending the middle class and wealthy people to college for free. He only says that he cares about poor people, but if you think hard about what his policies will do, they will increase the inequality gap, and make poor people poorer.

So what?

Lots of people don't list every single job they ever held. In my early days I worked as a housepainter, gas station attendant, carpentry, electrical and plumbing work and a few others but it doesn't make it onto my resume because a.) it would make the resume too long and b.) it's not particularly relevant to my current career.

Back door insults are a compulsion for about three Bernie Sanders supporters on this page. You seem to be one of them.
