auditory processing evaluation rec?

Anonymous
I am beginning to believe that my son, who has a long history of ear infections/multiple ear tube placements, has some mild to moderate auditory processing issues that may be interfering with his ability to pick up phonetics & reading in general. I don't believe he has any other issues (like ADD, etc.)

Can anyone recommend specific auditory processing evaluators/offices? What is the general price range for this kind of evaluation? Is it covered by health insurance?

Thanks.

We had it done at Kennedy Krieger. I believe that BC/BS covered all of it besides a co-pay, but I would double check on that. They were good with DD. Good luck!

Thank you. We have BC/BS, so I will definitely check on that. I'm sure that the health insurance will pay for some kind of hearing exam post ear tube removal, but I am confused about what to ask for. Some places have told me that 5 is too young for testing for a auditory processing disorder. Yet, we have had the hearing exams in the past in the course of ear tube placement/removal and it always comes back "normal." So, I think that he is hearing OK in a quiet booth when his attention is focused and he has a pair of headphones on. But that does not mesh with what I see in the real world.

What kind of hearing exams did you have?
