For those of us who canceled our WaPo subscriptions in light of Bezos’ censorship perhaps someone could use a gift link or summarize what was said? What did the parents do that makes them colossal bullies? What suggests they are misrepresenting what happened? |
I did not get that except for Nysmith's denial. Here is a clip: Nysmith, a 40-year educator whose family owns the school, said the conflict began with two girls in the same sixth-grade class. “They’re Jewish, obviously. The other family has roots in Gaza,” he said. Fourteen different teachers supervised the sixth-graders during the school day, he said, and none was able to substantiate the “unkind comments” Roy and Vazquez attributed to the other girl. “We ended up talking with the other child’s parents. They were appalled. They didn’t know what to make of these allegations,” Nysmith said. Lang said “multiple students in one sixth-grade class … led a campaign of bullying and ostracization of our client’s daughter.” “It was not a conflict between two students, and Mr. Nysmith, I’m sure, knows that,” he said. There was also an accusation that it was a group of kids bullying the girl. These kids are too young to have all this political confrontation going on. |
Nothing in that article suggests it. PP has decided, without evidence, that the parents are bullies and making a fuss over nothing. Suspect that has a lot more to do with PP’s world view than any facts of this incident. |
WAPO subscriber who read the article. I agree with this view. My personal opinion: Nysmith reacted poorly. Parents were likely extremely upset, but the HoS should have been able to handle it in a better manner. They likely wanted to know what he would do about it. Maybe he didn't know what to do or was afraid to address it because it is prevalent at the school. I don't know. I do know that an educator should be accustomed to handling accusations of bullying. It is very difficult to address any type of bullying and this is especially difficult if this is a prevalent view in the school. He could have defused the situation in some way. None of us were there and all of us are just speculating. The only thing we know for sure is the letter that Nysmith wrote the parents. In my view, it was inappropriate and kind of supports the concerns of the parents. |
I’m sorry, did we read the same article??? The WaPo article does absolutely nothing to absolve the school, and in fact corroborates several of the allegations in the complaint. In it, Nysmith HIMSELF admits that: 1. He refused to book a Holocaust speaker because of “the situation in Gaza” 2. The expulsion happened because, in a meeting, he asked the parents if they were calling him antisemitic and “they did not say no … They did not, and kind of muddled back and forth. At which point I said, ‘This meeting is over.’” So he did a bunch of BLATANTLY antisemitic stuff (I don’t see how you can claim #1 above is not antisemitic, even if you don’t believe any of the many other allegations), and then when the parents had the temerity to question his highness, he instantly expelled all three of their kids. And then went and ADMITTED it all to the Washington Post. Again, who are this man’s lawyers??? He is single-handedly costing this school its reputation, money, legacy etc. because he’s so utterly convinced of his own rightness. Just gross and such a waste. |
You are a million percent spot on about Kenneth Lucifer Nysmith’s arrogance.
I am actually sending him my wishes to suffer the consequences of his terribly poor choices. He ABSOLUTELY deserves it! That man played God in this family’s lives and ours too. My 6 year old was admitted bubbly and bright to Nysmith. Less than a year into his time there, I knew Nysmith wasn’t a place for truly gifted students and was going to pull him out. But Ken Nysmith decided, simply because he can, to expel my child. The justification, my son got bullied which made him upset. Instead of teachers supporting him to regulate, they left the classroom escorting the rest of the children out too leaving my child ALONE. Ken Nysmith thought it was “absolutely” the right decision and saw no problem whatsoever with the cruelty. So, I am looking forward to seeing him pay for his sins. There has to be a special place in hell for people like him!

This kind of hysterical reaction is why so many moderates are finding some claims of anti-Semitism less than credible. Fact: The mass killing of civilians in Gaza has created intense anti-Israel feeling among people who believe Israel is guilty of war crimes. Is Judaism the religion synonymous with Israel the state? No. However, some Jews are making it synonymous by calling anyone who condemns Israel’s war crimes against civilians anti-Semitic. In the current geopolitical context, yes, I can see a school administrator not wanting to invite a speaker on the Holocaust. Why? Because people who feel passionately about Israel’s actions might try to use that forum to compare the treatment of Jews by the Nazis and the treatment of Palestinians by Israel. It could certainly polarize the community. |
Still waiting for that gift link. |
How have you made it through adulthood and not found websites to get beyond paywalls?? https://archive.is/ You’re lucky I’m feeling generous tonight. |
This should be a gift link https://wapo.st/44DkB4P |
It will never cease to amaze me that Gaza is literally starving to death right now - food is so scarce and baby formula is pretty much all gone… and here some people are debating some wishy washy claims that can’t be proven or verified bc some privileged people have found ways to continue to center themselves during a genocide. And we wonder why the world is irredeemable and the future is bleak for all our kids. Well done. |
