GDS - Wow!

Oh the sidwell parents are back. We missed you. I guess not surprising from school had to put in place rules for its parents - like please don’t call colleges to trash other students.

What the world needs is not a bunch of new non-profits by rich high school kids that get shut down the day the kid is admitted to college. Let us know when one them changes anything. I think of it as wrapping paper sales for college admissions - parent does work and collects $$ from wealthy friends and co-workers. Kid takes credit. They’d be way better off spending the time on queer literature.

I’m so glad someone finally spoke up. I am a Sidwell parent and my son is NOT allowed to read all that woke BS. He instead spends his time in theater performances as the lead in many shows and as the head of the Sidwell fashion club and the dance troupe. No wonder Sidwell does so much better than GDS in college admissions. Schools are getting sick of these sissy SJWs!

Clearly, this thread has become extremely toxic. As BOTH a Sidwell and GDS parent, I think that this bickering is sickening.

Can we just appreciate the accomplishments of our kids without tearing each other apart on DCUM? Not sure why so many Sidwell parents have invaded this thread… if you are going to add something, at least make it positive. This whole college admissions process has become stressful enough. As parents, it’s our job to alleviate this stress—not get absorbed in this speculation, trash-talking, and nonsense. I’m sure our kids would laugh at us if they saw this thread. Go outside, touch grass, and think about what you’re writing on this anonymous forum.

Congratulations to GDS! Clearly, its senior class has put in a lot of work, and it has paid off. Sidwell has also had an excellent performance this year. Kudos to everyone.

I'm sorry to bring it back, but I got told by my friend at GDS (yes I am a student) to look at this thread, and I'm so glad I did because this is hilarious but also really disappointing. It's crazy to me that some (not all) parents on here are so wildly competitive with people they don't even know, about decisions they AREN'T MAKING.

If I'm going to be completely honest, I think GDS, Sidwell, Maret, St Albans, Holton, etc. are the same... it really just depends on your CHILD and what classes/extracurriculars they are taking that gets them into an Ivy League college. (Also, of course legacy helps too, duh) Please pick a DMV school where you think that you will feel at home!

I think it's important to note that the success of GDS does not take away from another school's, such as Sidwell. One more acceptance to Harvard from GDS than Sidwell means nothing in the grand scheme of things, it could be totally different the next year! College acceptances are very unpredictable. I think we should be happy for everyone who worked incredibly hard at all these schools and had their hard work pay off when they got accepted to a college. Going to an Ivy League college does not mean you are going to be set for life, and it does not guarantee happiness.

I have many close friends across different DMV private schools, and we NEVER argue about whose school is better! Several people are clearly not actual parents at these schools. It is so strange to see how some people just hope to incite reactions. I feel bad for those people tbh but they love DCUM and other anonymous boards!

PP was right that the DMV schools are similar to one another. They are also closer to each other than to the real top private schools in the country, so the back and forth is mostly comical. You don't see many WashU versus USC versus Rice debates here getting personal!

True, there's so many trolls on this page! But yes, I am a current Hopper. Thank you so much for your kind words, I've had a lot of self doubt lately about whether or not I measure up to the other kids at GDS both academically and financially.

Please don’t have any self doubt. You write eloquently and have far more maturity than many on this thread. I had some of those doubts in college - where many had fancy backgrounds and pedigrees. I thought everyone else had it all figured out. Some just started on third base and others just sounded self assured. 30 years later I see all that stuff didn’t end up mattering. You’ll see. Hang in there. You absolutely measure up.
