36 pages of comments tells the story: people do find this newsworthy. (Of course, mountains of newsprint have also been devoted to the break-up of "Jon and Kate Plus Eight," so it's not that tough a standard . . . ). Columnists write to provoke debate--mission accomplished here. Tough to benin the line of fire, of course. |
It isn't about Maureen Dowd it is about this concept of boys being boys and when and where where it crosses a line and a school needs to do something about it. This is not easy territory to navigate and many posters seem to feel that the Landon admin does have an issue on its hands. |
They have had an issue on their hands for some years with these boys in particular and other behavioral issues in general. Now it's out in the open and they can't deny, deny, deny anymore. |
I wouldn't call this website credible at all. Its 100% anonymous. The fantasy sex league, happened way back in August of 2009. Why wasn't it reported to the Post or Times back then. The same day GH's court trial was pusched back to October, Maureen Dowd's article appears.
Just 3 days ago- a bowie HS student was attacked in the hallways during school and the video was posted on YOUTUBE. The post had tiny article two days later in the post - I guess when mis behavior occurs in PG county,(primarily African Americans) the Post chooses to ignore it and will write a tiny article about it. But when something happens at a white, privaleged, prep school in Bethesda MD, the Post pops a boner and will do anything to try and distort the facts. Does Landon have some issues to address this summer - absolutely. Should the fantasy football league have made national news - NO. Are there some bad kids at landon who should be asked to leave - yes. 98% of the kids who attend Landon are great boys and they should not be trashed. |
Then why won't the administration act and get rid of the 2%? That would be a sound decision, for starters. |
I don't think you need to be particularly media savvy to understand what happened. There is obviously someone (probably multiple someones) who was very upset about the slampigs incident. I'd guess that the same someone has been pushing this story to any media personality with a pulse for months. The Love murder was enough to get Dowd to finally run with the story. Once the NYT had it, the Post jumped on the bandwagon. If I'm correct, the reason this story didn't appear earlier is that the Post was trying to avoid publishing it. |
Actually, there is a blog post; March 2010 referring to the
slampig website. Way before it was picked up in the national media. I can't reference the site--it is associated with an administrators name--against DCUM rules. However, the point is that someone was pushing it long before the Post picked up the story. |
If you were the parent of one of those girls on the list .... honestly, you'd have to hold me back. I don't doubt the issue wasn't pushed from that side of the coin. I know 2 of the girls on that list and they are the sweetest young ladies - the farthest thing from a "slampig". I don't doubt their parents had something to do with pushing this issue to the forefront, riding on the publicity of the Love murder. |
I have heard from a few sources that some of the "girls",not ALL of them" but some of them didnt care if their names were posted website. Look... I would be furious if my daughter's name was on that website. I have heard though that some girls viewed it as a popularity contest.
Remembers moms and dads - kids today are the same kids as they were 35 years ago when we were growing up. As much as I hate to say it, some girls might think of themselves as cool or more popular in their group of friends if they know their HS male friends think they are hot and want to sleep with them. Just look what are children are exposed to on MTV, fashion magazines, COSMO, and the internet. As much as I hope my 10th grade daughter is a Saint and is making the good decions when it comes to her social life - you never truly know until something bad surfaces. |
don't blame the girls pp...that is so very lame and 1950s...they weren't the perpetrators of the stupid game -- the Landon boys were...who else would they have been? |
Do you have a teen girl? I do and the popular set is rife with spit sisters. |
What is a spit sister, please.? |
"the fact that this story has made national news and has caused 36 pages of forum comments is absurd. Maureen Dowd has published a column that almost any person with any sense of basic knowdledge could publish. Landon does not need this nor does the New york times." COuld not agree more, if a good enough reporter did minimal research on various schools in the area such as jds, st albans etc they could find lots of stories which could be published into an article just like this. Right now Landon deserves some ridicule but its reputation is getting so far blown out of proportion it is not worth trying to put into words on a forumsite with some people who frankly have not had an experience with their child at landon and dont know half the story rather look at a day in the life of a landon boy and you would realize that maybe most of them dont fully understand every concept but everyone is being taught lessons on civility, strength and honor. |
The attempted deflection, blame on the messenger and "everyone else is doing it" mantra from Landon boosters really doesn't help the image of the school or the perception that the parents are part of the problem.
If Landon boosters continue bumping this thread to make the same misguided points, it continues to undermine any reparation the Landon community can make. This point has been made countless times in the now, 37 pages of this forum, yet it persists. I think that is more telling than anything else. |
DD heard it at school . It means having made out or hooked up with the same guy- sharing his spit. |
