Has anyone heard about the lottery results yet? Or know when parents will be notified?

Got my letter just now. My daughter got into Maryvale, and waitlisted everywhere else.

Does the letter say where she is on the waitlists?

We haven't gotten our letter yet but I know other people who have.

Yes the letter gives you the waitlist numbers also.

We still haven't gotten our letter!

We just got our letter today. We didn't get in anywhere and the wait list numbers are high. If the demand is that high I wish they'd create more immersion classrooms.

I realize this is a choice program offered by lottery and not everybody can get in. But privately, I'm so pissed about it!!!!

I am publicly totally pissed!!!!! I live in a shitty elementary school district, but all these rich white kids from Bethesda, where the schools are awesome, are filling up the language immersion in my district. It sucks!!!! I pay the same rate into MCPS from taxes as they do, but now I am faced with finding private school for my kids. This is BULLSH*T.

waitlist #198, by the way.

You all (no, I'm not southern) should try again in first grade. We didn't try at all for kindergarten because DC was in a really great program and we weren't yet completely disillusioned with DC's older sibling's local public elementary.

But DC applied to two immersion programs for first grade, drew a really low number for one of them, and got in around July.

I think fewer families apply for 1st grade because it's more of a challenge for the kid. By the same logic, it was a bit of a challenge for DC, and probably isn't for every kid. But kids learn so fast at that age that by January the teacher said DC was speaking as well as the kids who had been there in January. Plus they aren't really fluent in first grade anyway. With a little encouragement your kid can do it.

1st grade is the last grade your kid can enter without knowing any of the language. Starting in 2nd grade they are still allowed to enter, but they will need to demonstrate some profficiency before they are allowed in.

... as well as the kids who had been there in KINDERGARTEN. Sorry!

French told us they haven't accepted any first graders in more than 5 years.

That does seem pretty unfair.

We were over #150. May try again next year. Also, if you get a younger sibling in, then the older one can go to the English program at the same school. So if your school is really bad but the other school is better including the regular track, that might help.
