Travis and Taylor

“You're in self-sabotage mode
Throwin' spikes down on the road
But I've seen this episode and still love the show.”

Taylor loves/d Matty despite his antics and reputation. She knows him and herself in a way we, from afar, don’t. Why not give the benefit of the doubt to the person who made a billion dollars writing and singing about love and her feelings.

Or you could just as much give the benefit of the doubt to that same person saying that chapter of her life is closed and over. Why keep prolonging it. If she’s moved on, why not everyone else.

Matty … the guy you keep thinking will change but every time you taste him you throw up in the morning

If Taylor were my friend I would gently suggest she deserves much better and should choose herself, which includes leaving behind those who don't create a healthy safe place for her.

This is one of my favorite sad songs of all time. The live version from Madison Square Garden is even better than the studio version. The saxophone at the end is amazing.
We all have that one person - a lost love, a deceased family member - that this song evokes, without fail, every time.
And now I am crying…

I lost a baby a while ago, and “About You” and “Bigger Than The Whole Sky” are two songs that I always skip unless I am home alone because they destroy me. I am not surprised they were written by two artists with a deep connection to each other.

He was her transition guy… everyone needs one.

Matt Healy was no transition. She has been in love with him for years. She probably left Joe for him too. Then the fans, media, everyone dragged him through the mud and the guy couldn’t take the heat and walked out. Can’t blame him, not everyone wants that kind of scrutiny into their past (and his is wild!) and into their every move.

These are of the songs from the past decade that are likely about him, in addition to the ones on the new album:

The One, Cardigan, Question ?, Illicit Affairs, Dancing With Our Hands Tied, End Game, Glitch, Labyrinth, Maroon, Death By a Thousand Cuts, Daylight, Ready For It, Don’t Blame Me, Now That We Don’t Talk, August, This is Me Trying, Cowboy Like Me, Snow on the Beach, August, Gold Rush, Ivy, Closure, Exile, Cornelia Street, False God, So It Goes, maybe Cruel Summer…and who knows how many others.

If she’s in love with MH then poor taste in men.

Some people are like that. Some grow out of it. Some don't.

There is no need to grow out of intense love, deep connection, the chase, the longing and flirting with songs back and forth. These are the moments that make life worth living! Taylor doesn’t need a partner to help with earning and domestic chores for example, that’s been taken care of a long time ago. She wants butterflies and weak knees and messy top kisses and fireworks and pontificating and writing poetry all night. Matty can give her all that and more (my bedsheets are ablaze she wrote

These two need to get over their pride and prejudice and find their way back to each other. I am too invested now in this epic, clandestine love story and would love to see it through.

yes, and I am here for it. ...will Matty reply or stay silent?

He’s chaotic and profound at the same time, funny, quick-witted, sardonic, oddly brilliant in flashes before he reverts to a weird little muppet, very likely reeking of cigarettes and cabernet, and for some reason this combo is irresistible. He just scratches something in my brain.

But also: uh, he’s a rock star. It’s a thing.

Rock star to whom?

Just to thousands of people filling his band's arena shows globally

Arenas? lol no

The 1975’s concert at Madison Square Garden (one of the world’s most famous *arenas*) last year was sold out for the two nights they played there. Capacity is 20,000. It was a beautiful concert enjoyed by this old fart who grew up attending rock concerts in the 80s and 90s. “About You” is the sister song to “Every Breath You Take.”

DP. It reminds me of 80s alternative bands, like Psychedelic Furs (Heaven, Ghost in You) or New Order. Just beautiful.

You guys are really romantacizing this whole thing. Just guessing, but you sound pretty young. From someone who is probably quite a bit older and able to speak from more life experience, believe me there’s more you want in a life partner than butterflies and weak knees and writing poetry all night. Maybe she has that now.

“You already know, babe.”

Yes! I am so glad someone else on this board gets it.

I am in my 50s and happily married to a stable partner who is wonderful and no poet But then I am also not Taylor Swift, who can live out her entire life like the single best, wildest, funnest day of our youth, and I support that path if that’s what she or others choose. Why do people assume everyone wants the life most of us on this site have (moms, wives, corporate jobs)? Her reality is so different than ours. There can also be happiness and fulfillment in a life of highs and lows with little gray in it.

Well yes Taylor doesn't need a partner who has to help with the school run or make dinner. Neither will ever live a basic life. Matty is rumored to be worth $20m or so alone.

+1

And I'll add that the whole Matt Healy thing shines a light on how unlikely it is that Taylor is going to find her happily ever after. Her approach to relationships is not conducive to a longterm match.

After listening to the album, I get why she's into Travis. I knew nothing about Matty Healy until recently, but I see that she clearly goes for the tortured soul English types, right. But she just released an album denouncing how her fame has infiltrated all facets of her life, that if you want to see mean, great you created it when you came after me; why can't it once be me; where's my soulmate, smallest man who ever lived couldn't handle me, etc. etc etc. Say what you will about her, her level of fame is next level and she's been in relationships where she's been hurt because she felt like she wasn't worth it in the end; where they let the court of public opinion dictate their actions.

Cue Travis Kelce who parades her around, shows up, says he's not running from it, he's all in. That has to be music to her ears, pun intended. Someone is choosing her in a really big way. It's nice.
