Live-in Eldercare Cost

Anonymous
My Mom needs live-in care. Someone to administer meds, prepare meals, bathe and deal with incontenince issues. After several strokes, she is not in a good place. She can talk but sleeps a lot and watches TV when she's awake. Have started looking at nursing homes and the prices and environment are depressing. We own a soon to be vacant 2 bedroom condo. Am wondering if anyone has ever hired a live-in caretaker and what the cost is in addition to providing free room and board for the caregiver.

Does anyone have recommendations for home health care agencies in Montgomery County? Thanks.

Family and Nursing Care. We have round the clock care for our mother. They do live in, but we have not done that. They have different levels of care. The one we have is $19.00/ hour. Have been very bery pleased with them.

Run, don't walk, from Lifematters in Bethesda. We used them and the lowest hourly fees were $23 and up, and the caregivers had trouble arriving on time, or at all, and weren't very well trained. I've heard better things about Cap City Nurses. We ended up finding someone privately, which worked well for us.

Are you paying for 24 hour care? $500/day?

Sorry! Overlooked where you'd written round the clock.

I tried to help our former babysitter/housekeeper find a job like this so I have to think that there are people out there who fit the same profile.

She is 50 something, lives in a not so great place and sends most of what she has leftover to her home country each month. If she could live in a stable and nice place in exchange for some amount of working hours it would be a huge win.

There have to more people like that -- sort of a live in nanny for an older person.
