Children's neurodevelopmental peds - contact #?

Anonymous
I've been trying to get ahold of someone in neurodevelopmental pediatrics for several weeks now, to talk to them about getting on the waitlist for developmental eval/making sure they're the better place to start over neuropsych for my 3.5 year old with almost certain ADHD but also some language/social/and other delays. (tips on whether that's true taken too!) Except no one ever returns my calls when I leave a message, and the only way to get to them seems to be to get the general # to transfer me to neurology who then transfers me to the right people. I don't suppose anyone has a direct # for them? This fits my experience with children's - I have to call until I reach a human, this is the 4th department there that has never returned my calls - but when neurology also doesn't answer their phone it starts getting comically stupid (Hi, I'm really calling to reach another department, do you suppose you could call me back to transfer me to them or give me their # since you're who I always get routed too...that also doesn't get a call back). (and I've tried, really, to get the general phone # people to transfer me directly, at the least, or give me a number, but no go - they don't seem to recognize this as a department, even though it's clearly a group at least per the website)

Help?

I don't have the number for that department but this is a huge problem at Children's.

If you scroll down on this page you see pictures and the names of the neuropsychologists. Asking for a particular Doctor may help.

Victory! But man was that ridiculous (calls to Rockville Neuropsych, to get them to transfer me to someone to transfer me, etc etc etc). Anyway, for future reference of others, should they search, until they change #s, apparently the direct neurodevelopmental # is 202-476-5764 for the admin side for questions. But if that doesn't work, calling the Rockville number 301-765-5400, lets you select for developmental peds, which also routes you the same way. 301-765-5400 can be used to schedule in Rockville as well, and 202-476-3508 can be used to schedule in DC.

Neuropsychology won't schedule you until your kid actually turns 4 (never mind the 6 month wait that would have made her 4 by the time we got in - in fact she'll be 4 by the time dev peds sees her). Neurodevelopmental will make you see their NP instead of a doc if you're 0-5 (so they tell me) if she's available, short of an unusual medical issue. But then at least you're in the pipeline. Of course it's an 8 month wait, but whatever, I knew that was coming. Will now go call Rockville to see if they have a sooner appointment (because ridiculously main children's can't schedule for Rockville because that would be too easy). I really think this should be easier...

I HATE this kind of BS about Children's. Their medical care is great, but trying to schedule or reschedule anything is RIDICULOUS. Once you have seen a doctor if you can get their email address, I find they will help you with rescheduling, sometimes by giving you the email or direct # of the scheduler.

We go to a pediatrician who is affiliated with CNMC - the significant benefit is they have some internal way of expediting the scheduling and usually do it for us. http://childrensnational.org/choose-childrens/locations-and-directions/primary-care-practices/cpa-foggy-bottom

That said, I'm convinced that CNMC's administrative staff are people that were fired by Mayor Williams or Michelle Rhee back in the day.

So here's where I sheepishly admit we go to CP&A too and it never occurred to me to ask them (the downside of not needing a referral for insurance purposes, I guess). I guess I'll send a message to our doc to see if they can expedite in any way...thanks for mentioning that.

For all the chaff, occasionally there's a little bit of wheat on these boards. Hope it helps.

This is insane bs. I am pissed off for you. I remember similar wait times for my daughter (and crying), but I never had to put up with this type of contact jungle (did not go to children's).

I am feeling your pain. We got on the wait list to see a doc in Rockvile and I called every day to see if there was a cancellation. I booked in November and got an appointment in April. Early December we got a call that we needed to reschedule.....and got bumped to the end of the line in June. I was almost in tears....after a "heated" conversation I was told they could see us this month. So frustrating.
