| How does it compare to Bethany & Rehoboth? |
|
It isn't on the ocean, but on a bay. It is very quiet. The ride to Rehobeth from there isn't that pretty.
The bay is nice, and great with a little kid. Some folks love it, but I need the waves. If you are going for a full week, think about Dewey. The party scene has little impact on you during the week and it is cheaper. |
| I love Lewes. There is a beautiful beach (not on the bay, but on the ocean) in Henlopen Park with perfect clean sand and good waves, foot showers, etc. Perhaps the previous poster didn't know about that because the "beach" in town is awful. But Lewes is really quaint and quiet compared to the other beach towns... and that's what I like about it. If you rent an old Victorian house, it's really a great experience and close enough to Rehoboth if you are craving the carnie atmosphere. |

PP,
Is that the beach that is in th State Park? Thank you. |

yes the ocean Lewes beach in actually the State Park.
A heads up here .... full disclosure, Lewes is my favorite DE beach town, always has been, for the reasons stated above (quiet, historic, cultivated). But. We stayed in Lewes for a week with our kids last summer and they were bored stiff by Lewes. The town offers antique stores, high end boutiques, culinary shops, grown-up bookstores and precious little for the under-7 set. There's one ice cream place and one great toy store. Sooo, every single day we found ourselves in horrendous traffic heading down Hwy 1, to go to mini golf, pancake places, water slides, boardwalks, Funland, train restaurants, kite shops, trolley rides .... and everything else you'd want to experience if you were four years old instead of 40
In sum, my preschool-age kids love Rehoboth and Bethany. Lewes was a bust. |
| I have a 4 year old and she loved Lewes just as much as we adults did. Sure there wasn't so much in the way of games and loud noisy excitement, but we spent most of the day at the beach anyway... and maybe went to Rehoboth twice in five days for mini golfing and july 4 fireworks. The highlight for her, though, was the water and the sand. Nightly ice cream shop trips didn't hurt either. |
| I absolutely agree with the previous poster. Our toddler loved both the town beach and the beach at the state park. We went to Rehoboth once and it was overwhelming for her. |
