Hardscaping our backyard - kid friendly materials??

Anonymous
We're planning to hardscape our backyard (because of a tick infestation) and thinking about flagstone because it's so beautiful and natural. However, it might not be the most child-friendly material, as it might create rough or uneven surfaces that wouldn't happily coexist with tricyles and other toys. Does anyone have a suggestion? What have others chosen for their patios/backyards/etc? Because of the ticks we can't use woodchips, grass or other organic/vegetative materials. Thanks for any ideas....

flagstone is very slippery when wet. how about rubber mulch. It looks real, also fake grass, these days it is pretty amazing, unless you have a pet. Also brick, it hurts when you fall on it, but it is not slippery. good luck
