Spain with a toddler

Anonymous
We're going to Madrid in May for work. I have to spend about 3-4 days there, but after that we can extend our trip for a week or so and enjoy the country. Any suggestions on where to head and what to do after Madrid with a two year old in tow? Thanks!

Day trips from Madrid are great: Segovia, Toledo, etc. You can also take the bullet train to Barcelona or Seville. Seville may be very hot.

+1 on the bullet train (with advance purchase fares are very reasonable)

Barcelona has Parc Guell and the beach, Seville has the Alcazar.

OP here. Thank you! So, after Madrid should we just take the bullet train to Barcelona for the rest of the trip? And then, we could day trip from there? It seems like a good base, right?

I would stay in madrid for a day or two before going to barcelona. Segovia and toledo are both worth visiting.

Okay. Should we try to hit any beaches while we're there?

Barcelona has some beach. The Costa Brava (like Tossa de Mar) isn't far. My impression is that in the summer it is completely overrun with foreign tourists, but in May it might be ok.

In Madrid, go to Retiro (like central park) on the weekend. Tons going on!
