closet doors: what should i do?

Anonymous
We bought our house from a family that seems to LOVE mirrored sliding closet doors. Every bedroom (except for the master, thank goodness) has mirrored sliding closet doors, including the bedroom that has become my office. The mirrored closet doors are driving me crazy. However now that I have started looking for new replacement closet doors, I realize that I have no idea what people are doing with closets in 2015. What should I get for the kids rooms, guest room and office? All rooms are somewhere btw 1-x12 and 14x14. Are bi-fold doors still an easy option, or is there something else I'm not even considering? Thanks in advance!

Maybe put window film on the mirrors?

OP here, thanks for the inspiration.

Despite the looks, think of the function you want, OP. I moved into a house with large closets that have double doors. They are not sliding, nor are they bi-folding. They are literally just two doors that you pull open, kind of like french doors do, but they are quite wide--like the width of a regular bedroom door. I wish they were bi-folding, so they take up less space when open. Actually, now that I think about it, one room has bi-folding doors, but the other four closets in the house have the large doors. I don't really want to pay to replace all of them, though. But if I did, I'd want them to be bi-folding.

Sliding doors, if space is a concern.

I agree with the above points. We have regular doors on the closets & it limits how I can arrange the furniture. In already too-small rooms! The insult to injury here is that I myself chose the regular doors to replace the very mirrored things OP has. I don't want to pay to have them replaced twice. Lol.

Choose bifold or sliding non-mirrored.

We have bi-fold but want to replace them with regular doors so we can use the inside of the doors to put hooks up to hang purses, shoe door hanger. Bi folds waste space.
